Re: The Armory - Guns, Knives, and Axes
I can't tell you how happy I am that you're not actually involved in the film biz. The last thing I want to see is more SF movies or TV by someone who can't be bothered to actually read some before they write. That's why we gets so much crap filmed based on time travel, evil twins, and amnesia stories. Shitty, hack writers who think that SF is easy.
We are only accustomed to dealing with like twenty online personas at a time so when we only have about ten people some people have to be strawmanned in order to advance our same relative go nowhere nonsense positions. -TheReal_ND

If it's not a sci-fi about going back in time and killing baby Hitler it doesn't get funding. Might be surprised what happens in an actual free market

Everybody's a critic, but I'm just doing it for myself.brewster wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2019 12:15 amI can't tell you how happy I am that you're not actually involved in the film biz. I've got the flow going, writer's block is gone, artist's block is gone
I'm enjoying what I write and loving how the illustrations are turning out.
It's not business, just pleasure.
I don't need to make it in the movie business, I received a sizeable inheritance.
This is just for fun, none the less, it's hot shit, I write and draw for myself and I'm loving it.
I'm not as talented as pineapplemike, he's more prolific than me, but we're still in the same ballpark
I'm 100% sure mike would say it was the shit, and I only crave the respect of my peers.
In terms of the writing, I trust my wife's judgement, she's a big reader, if she loves it, doesn't suck.
Even if my wife is the only one who ever reads it, it's still fun, just to write for her, it's a joy.

It's like writers and/or artists block comes and goes. Inspiration is there, then it's gone, it's fleeting
When you're blocked, you are your own harshest critic, you know its not flowing, you know it sucks.
When the flow comes tho, you just know, you can look at your own stuff and say 'yeah, that's the shit'

Like just one of my sketches is better than what 99.9% of people on earth can draw.
I know what's good, I know what sucks, I know I'm a better artist than most of humanity.
But it's not about them, it's not good until I think it's good,
I'm not competing with people who can't write nor draw.
I'm competing with myself.
It's like people come to my office and say "who did all this art?' and I say "I did" and they are stunned.

On the writing side, you get better as you go, it feeds on itself,
As you start to breathe life into the characters, they gain more depth.
After awhile it's like they are real people, they take on a life of their own.
You start to think as that character as you are writing them
When you've got all the art to go with it, and some music to set the mood, it's quite wonderful.
Literally ; full of wonder.

It's like when you were a kid, and you thought the Millennium Falcon was cool.
You could draw it, you could reproduce it, but that wasn't as satisfying as you thought it would be.
What you really wanted, was to design something of your own which was that cool.
When you hit that threshold, when you've got that original look to it; it's cool, and you drew it. Freehand.
That's the shit. Not even for the public, just for yourself.
Then the illustration kicks starts the writing, because now it's real, you can see the movie in your head.

So, if we aren't going to get an opening paragraph do we get to see one of the pictures?
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

You're nothing but a tease then.
