Kinda metallic kinda gross. Its like that bad breath feel you have when you're hungry, but not the one you have when you wake up.apeman wrote:That's kinda gross.California wrote:I can tell if I'm in ketosis by the taste in my mouth the most. Interesting comparison of my intermittent fasting and DB's keto diet.
Interesting pros and cons.
I wonder what happens if you do both?

Glycogen in the liver lasts ~4-6 hrs, so after it's gone, you're Keto.Speaker to Animals wrote:Interesting comparison of my intermittent fasting and DB's keto diet.

Food in the intestine lasts ~40 hrs.
To Keto, you need to use up the liver reserve, but glucose is going to be pulled from the intestine first, so if you're low-carb, there's not much in the intestine. The longer you fast, the longer you're burning fat after the glycogen is gone.
p.s. Calories are bullshit.

Re: The diet of Metas - Ketogenic
Glycogen is pretty much gone when I do fasted cardio. It's been at least 16 hours since I ate anything, and probably more like 20 hours since I ate a lot of carbs anyway. It's not quite the same as the ketosis state you get into in a keto diet, but it's not far off from that. Studies show fasted cardio will burn up fat pretty damned fast.
I don't think the two things are incompatible, though. A fasting diet is not really a diet in that it doesn't tell you what to eat. It only tells you to eat within a certain window. So if you are doing a keto diet, you could just put everything into a 6-8 hour window and schedule your cardio for before you break the fast.
I don't do resistance training fasted, though I know people who do. I do way too much volume for that. I have tried it and was totally wiped out. My lifts were severely compromised.
The main benefit I think to the fasting regimen is that it floods your body with HGH. So if you want to build muscle, that's your best bet.
I suppose you could combine them to get the HGH (fasting) and the improved brain function (keto).
I worry that, without carbs, my performance in the gym would decline, though, and that would lead to slower gains.
