That's cute, cousin.

It's almost as if the common sense fled England in the 1600s.

 don't know if you realize how ironic that statement is. Well done.

Update on the Beef
Got the calf March 30, approx. weight of 100 lbs., 3 weeks old. In the first 30 days the calf put on close to 100 lbs. Now we are 73 days old the beef weighs about 250-275 lbs.

The goal is to butcher Feb 15th at a weight of 800 lbs. we are on track, but I need to improve some fencing so I can get her on more grass.

Getting my hunter's license this year, hopefully tomorrow, if i pass the exam.

Get the impression you're a seasoned hunter, C-Mag, any advice for a totally green hunter?

Want to hunt these birds eventually:

But they might be a bit hard to hunt/find, and everyone here starts with the lagopus/ptarmigan, willow grouse and rock grouse.

Many projects completed lately. Bedroom renovation is done, stair carpet installed, garden is tilled.

I have to say, I'm particularly proud of our soil. We went from raw clay 2 years ago, to a rich loam, just using compost, peat moss, and lawn clippings. It's amazing how much can be done with simple changes.

Work hard to perfect anything in the equation you can control. This means marksmanship, knowing your weapon, ammo and safety.
When you go out hunting, make sure you are properly dressed for the weather and prepared for the what if weather.
Know exactly where you are going, no how to navigate both in and out of your hunting area.
Try to find an experienced hunter in your area and get some tips. If you're lucky he will invite you along.

Let me watch that video

Those Capercaille are pretty cool. I didn't know about them.

So, Grouse Hunting. I hunt grouse here occasionally. We're pretty lucky in my area, grouse are often quite plentiful and make easy camp food. We have Spruce Grouse, which can easily be killed with a sling shot, or if you have the arm, a rock or stick. They are known as a Fool Hen, because they rely almost entirely on camouflage to escape predators.

We also have several other species, Sharptail Grouse is the common grouse for country similar to most of Scotland. These open country grouse are far more flighty and they are harder to get close to. Whatever you are hunting, try to figure out their patterns. Where they are going to feed and where they are going to rest. Grouse are generally going to want to roost in trees at night

Shooting game birds on the wing takes some practice, don't be discouraged if you miss. In my experience, the difference between shooting clay pigeons and live birds is that live birds require a little lead, whereas you can general just put the bead right on clay pigeons.

I really don't know how much help I can give you.

Good man.
I've got soil work to do myself.

How often do you til your soil.

Just once a year. Two passes with the big rear-tine from Home Depot.

I have 5lbs of organic spring wheat seeds in the mail, and am planning to grow winter wheat as well, if it works out. Fresh bread forever, and no chemicals.
