How would you make this happen? Productivity has already increased tremendously, but workload has actually increased (more work for fewer workers). The profit hasn't accrued anywhere near proportionally to the worker. For example: I do the work that 2+ tech writers did 5 years ago, but I don't make anywhere near twice my salary 5 years ago.Martin Hash wrote:This should be your choice, which is why I'm adamantly against Basic Income/National Dividend, but if productivity increased dramatically, the Basic Incomers would only HAVE to work a few hours a week then they could surf, smoke dope, whatever.MilSpecs wrote:It would depend on my current phase of life. Right now, money is more important.
FYI, the only time productivity worked in my favor was when I got stock options. Then it really worked in my favor, and in everyone else's favor in my company at the time. I've even noticed that the higher paid technical salespeople, whose compensation is purportedly directly based on their productivity, have had their numbers altered so they don't get bonuses proportional to what they used to get. All the increase in productivity goes to the very top. How would you solve this problem?

There's a component of algorithm combined with psychology in the rates. The idea is to let people get wealthy but the incentive to get even more wealthy diminishes as your income increases. Computerized accounting make it much easier.MilSpecs wrote:What kind of rates/incomes are you talking about?Martin Hash wrote:Progressive taxation.
I could also work a Balanced Budget into the equation but, frankly, I'm thinking that Government deficits don't mean anything except to control inflation. (We haven't had any inflation for the past decades because China manipulates its currency by buying Treasuries, the U.S. is still the safest place in the event of an economic crash so foreigners buy Treasuries, plus phony Government accounting.)

It hasn't worked like that in practice though.Martin Hash wrote:It's not that pay doubles, doubling productivity means that you can buy the same thing for half the amount. That's a huge distinction.
Productivity and cost-of-living has been rising while real wages have been dropping

Yeah, and if 3 days meant full time, think how much more overtime you would get.TheReal_ND wrote:Tbh fuck you. Some of us need overtime to get ahead.
I think, and I'm sure Hash will correct me if I'm wrong, the idea is to maximize personal agency wherever possible.

Isn't how that one of the Nordic countries' taxation system work? They seem to be pretty happy with it.Martin Hash wrote:There's a component of algorithm combined with psychology in the rates. Money has been accumulating to the winners. There's certainly enough money to go around, more redistribution is needed, and there's lots of ways to do that. (Unfortunately, Trump is not the person for that. He'll stop the fucking weaklings from leveraging the strong but he will empower the strong even more.)California wrote:It hasn't worked like that in practice though.Martin Hash wrote:It's not that pay doubles, doubling productivity means that you can buy the same thing for half the amount.
