Whether you believe this or not, there is a healthy number of Tennesseans who only drink Guinness given any choice on the question.

I have one mate around 55 years old now who knocks back 15 or 20 pints when given a head start and something substantial to eat.

Guinness days are special days in these parts.

Mass produced rubbish for the export market.
The Irish prefer Beamish or small microbrewery stouts.
The best Guiness was always the bottled option as it was a live beer with secondary fermentation in the bottle.
They stopped making it properly about 20 years ago though. Now it's all just keg beer (not real ale) in bottles and cans.

In Asheville, Ninja Porter is best, but I have had the porter from Blowing Rock Brewery two hours north from here and like it better.

Apparently this is one of the best regions in the US for microbreweries.

Even Sierra Nevada set up down the road from me in Mills River. They are from the West.

We do have our own water supply for this region. It was a major plot point in 3 Seconds After.

There has been a cluster of breweries around Burton (near Manchester) for centuries because of the water which comes from springs in the Pennines.
If you can find local spring water for your mead/ale you can get a better taste and avoid chlorine and fluoride or whatever goes in the tap water in your area.
If you think about it, beer is 95% water so you want the best you can get.

In Kentucky distilling country they make a big deal out of the limestone geology giving them special water. I'm dubious that it's so much better than high quality surface water like Coors is always blabbing about.

I know that guy who created and runs Sierra Nevada does not fuck around at all. There had to be a reason he'd build a satellite brewery here of all places.
