SHTF for white farmers in South Africa. It's really fucked that our corporate media says nothing about this.California wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2019 9:30 amThis is happening in South Africa right now, and will happen here if we let it
The last time we discussed this picture it really hit me about how much dogs love us. That Ridgeback, which is a badass dog, is scared to death yet is still standing guard

It's better this way. Whenever I catch the Boer Report I get sick to my stomach. Ignorance really is bliss.

Thoughts?
You could probably build that yurt, with their appliances, hook ups, cabinetry, etc. for about 80k tops.

Not for me, but anything that gets you set up free and clear of banks is good

I think it could get me on the property until I can make enough from the land to justify building a house on it.
I wouldn't go that high-end, though. Probably a 40' one, though, which is still about 900 square feet.
Worst case, if SHTF really does happen, you have a fucking yurt on the property that is basically off-grid.

Yurts are great if you are a nomad who has to move camp periodically but if you aren't moving a geodesic dome is the way to go.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

These are not yurts like the Mongols literally traveled with, and a 1,000 square foot geodesic dome house would cost you like 130k compared to the roughly 80-90k for a 1200 square foot yurt.

80K for a yurt? You should check those prices. If you want a permanent-home-immovable-type super-duper energy efficient yurt with all that high-class stuff the retired couple had, you could probably run through 80 or 90 K.
In Tennessee, you can get a brand new manufactured home for about $25K (2BR) that is insulated to code; that's a brand-new trailer type house. The walls might not stop 00buck, but nobody's gonna be slipping up on you anyway.
One could sell it when one has the desired permanent home built. Log homes kits are getting extremely popular for the folks around here escaping from Nashville's hipster bullshit and traffic.

Still not cheaper. The yurt kit itself is about 30k. That forty foot yurt has as much living space as a condo 1200+ sq feet). Then you have to pay for everything you put into it, and if you want to build rooms and a loft in there.
You quoted just the price for the kit homes, which do look really nice.
If you want to compare apples to apples, the kit home with similar area on that site lists for about 70k, more than twice the cost.
