Yep.

It's a slow decline in quality of life, but a lot of the infrastructure remains.

People should prepare for rolling blackouts, food distribution interruptions, things like that. Become more self-sufficient. Learn small trades that you can barter with one another.

+1 Guys

This is why I love the book series 299 days by Glen Tate. It's not great literature, sometimes even bad. However the guy does understand government, especially at the state and local level and how people react to crisis fairly well. The story takes place in the Olympia, WA/Seattle area and is based on a partial collapse of the United States and some Balkanization. The scenario is very realistic for the most part.

Bingo! God help us if cable companies get nationalized. IMO that will be the final nail in the coffin of freedom, well what remains of it. The government has wet dreams about total control over media. The only thing that would save us from that is death of the planet by a giant asteroid. Both outcomes suck.

Yes, he is an average guy (not a professional author) but the story is great. I would recommend everyone reading it and the books are easy read. Just order the first book and read it. You don't have to by a set of books which is nice.

I don't know of another book that is based on this scenario. Most all books are about the Apocalypse.

Tate's brilliance is what happens when the money, supply and energy infrastructure becomes unstable and how the types of 'leaders' we have in place have the power to control resources and the authority under Emergency Powers to control their state and local governments. His take on this is very realistic to me. I also found the spectrum of how the military will react to this as being very logical as well.

This is a 'doomsday' strategy... there are going to have to be some sacrifices.

Keep your plans simple, and learn to manage expectations, THAT is the recipe for apocalypse success... believe that!
I think you're confusing what I was getting at. I'm not suggesting that you pimp out your wife or daughters. I'm saying that they are worth killing for, on both sides (yours and the raiders). I would fight to the death to protect my wife from that horrible aspect of human history and I'm sure my sons would defend her as well.
Oh, I understand.

What I am saying is they have to catch me to kill me, and that is going to be tough while they are tied up raping my wife and daughter.

(Pride is going to be what gets ya killed... self respect is a pre-doomsday luxury as far as I am concerned.)
HAIL!

Her needs America so they won't just take his shit away like in some pussy non gun totting countries can happen.

This could be cool for a condo dweller:

Get a large print to put against the wall behind it. Maybe try to affix a wood surface on the outside of the cylinder. It might actually look nice indoors.

This conversation moved from the Era of Trump where we started talking about Beef prices.

I get it. You go to the grocery store, buy two small plastic bags and it's $50-75. That's why I make the moves I do. The global economy does not give a shit about you or me.
I'm very interested in this, actually... And this should probably go in that Self-Reliance thread we had going.

How possible is it to raise cattle 'organically' these days? Can modern breeds do without the heavy antibiotic/hormone regimens that feed lots use?
How cheap could you get your raising process down to - just open grass lot, and somewhere covered to sleep?

If you have land, it's actually very doable. Lots of people do it around where I live. You don't have to do much but ensure they have enough grass to graze one (and probably buy feed in the winter, though I am unsure if that's even necessary for most places). You might need to pay for a vet to check on them once a year or so. When it's time to butcher them, there are people that will come and take them for that, and will pay you for the meat in addition to what you keep that you are willing to give up.

For the purposes of self-reliance.. learning to butcher a cow would not be fun. But if you are hungry enough, that won't matter one bit.

Well, I'd probably work my way into it, like anything else. Keep us updated on your calf's progress, please.

I imagine I'd start like you're doing, just watch very closely while the mobile butcher chops up Daisy for you, and research a bit for next time. I suspect that breeding them wouldn't be terribly difficult either - despite all of the ridiculous manhandling that happens in factory farms. Just let nature take its course and such.
