Indeed, and in fact all Canadian Forces Bases are checked out like resorts, no expense spared, anything you could possibly need or want provided by the taxpayer, and moreover, a Corporal Technical Specialist Group 2 makes $66,000/year, why I feel the need to give him/her a $9000 tax break on top of such a generous base salary is beyond me, which is why I don't feel the need to do that, and if that Corporal then proclaims themselves to be a "victim" for it, am perfectly happy for said Corporal to turn in their kit and get the fuck out.

Let's be real, though. Most Americans becomes chow hall connoisseurs inside of two years.

Hell, I even ate the vomit omelet MREs.

Do you guys even have the Green Eggs and Ham MREs any more? Back in the 90s, that shit was premo nasty.

It is an honour, and a privelege, to serve in the thin red line of HM Canadian Forces, anybody who thinks they're hard done by, step aside... next man, stand up, hook up, shuffle to the door...

... pretty sure we can find somebody else to fill your slot, at $66,000/year. /shrugs

Veggie omelet MRE was one of the favorites. I know no one else liked them, but with some tabasco I thought they were pretty good. They got rid of them years ago, though. Buffalo chicken MRE is surprisingly good, it's downright delicious.

Green powdered eggs in the dfac are still a thing, and are still inedible without hot sauce.

Back then, the MRE was labeled something like ham and eggs. You would have a hard time forcing a POW to eat one of those things. A lot of guys would vomit from eating it, hence why it was nicknamed the vomit omelet. It was also known as green eggs and ham because the eggs were actually green.

There were a few that were pretty good. I didn't mind the Salisbury steak one. Sometimes we would get the Life Savers candy pack with the 1984 Olympics logo on it. Good times.

Our equivalent was the ham omelette, on my Recce course we were in three man dets, so it was me and another senior Corporal, with a buck Private, and we made the Private take all the ham omelettes, so all he had to eat, three meals a day, for weeks on end, was ham omelletes, that Private is a Sergeant-Major now, and he still hasn't really forgiven us for it.

I just didn't care after a while. I was already stuck on a tarmac in the middle of the Saudi peninsula, where it was over 140 degrees on the flight line due to the concrete radiating heat. At some point you learn to embrace the suck.

Same. After nine months of nothing but MREs to eat, you don't really taste them anymore. You just grab one. Doesn't matter what it is.

No reason to be a masochist, when there are FNG's around, embracing the suck is all relative, sucks to be a Private, sucks less to be a Corporal, and being a Regimental Sergeant Major doesn't suck at all, by the time the suck works its way up through the ranks to the top, it's not even the suck anymore.

Any Corporal who says that he would throw himself in front of a joe job, just to spare the Privates the indignity, is either a liar, or a masochist, and sure as shit the RSM ain't throwing himself in front of that, joe jobs, is what Privates are for, if rank didn't hath its priveleges, nobody would ever seek promotion.

As somebody who got in shit pretty regularly, going from Private to Corporal was like night and day, kit inspection on defaulters; fuck all that noise.

That's what it was like when I was a private. When I was a private, NCOs could kick a private out of his seat, and the private sat on the floor. NCOs and joes had separate latrines. Joes didn't go into the NCO's office without permission, and as soon as your business was concluded, you left.

By the time I got out, privates thought you were supposed to give them your seat under the guise of, "taking care of soldiers." PSG's office had chairs and couches for the soldiers to lounge in. I pointed out some deficiencies in a latrine that hadn't been cleaned well enough. The soldier ran to tell his NCO, who then thought it would be a good idea to say something to me about telling a private he didn't do a good enough job. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Fucking whole place is in a death spiral.
