BOGOTA, Colombia —

Facing a bread shortage that is spawning massive lines and souring the national mood, the Venezuelan government is responding this week by detaining bakers and seizing establishments.

In a press release, the National Superintendent for the Defense of Socioeconomic Rights said it had charged four people and temporarily seized two bakeries as the socialist administration accused bakers of being part of a broad “economic war” aimed at destabilizing the country.

The result is the same when any economy fails. Bread is the most efficient way to provide calories cheaply, and the most important part of the food supply.

This is the result of any authoritarian regime - not just "communism" (which Venezuela was not).

I think you're confusing what I was getting at. I'm not suggesting that you pimp out your wife or daughters. I'm saying that they are worth killing for, on both sides (yours and the raiders). I would fight to the death to protect my wife from that horrible aspect of human history and I'm sure my sons would defend her as well.

All the good apocolyptic stories have been done already; the Cold War was a much more fertile environment for them. What's coming, what I call "The Collapse," is more of a clamp on credit, loss of jobs, and people forced to live within their means. There will still be Internet, automobiles, food, healthcare & cellphones, but predatory businesses, like Comcast & pharmaceuticals, will be nationalized.
