Ebola, the disease that has been scaring people since the 80's. Currently the 3rd largest outbreak in history is going on. Death rate for the disease is 82%. Currently 272 cases, they are vaccinating people at a good rate, but it sounds like they don't have a handle on a lot of potentially infected people, over 5,700 are out there and have not been treated.

The UN has passed a resolution calling for all fighting in the area to stop so they can get a handle on it. One wonders if a time will come when containment to the Dark Continent will fail.

Yeah, the nerve of me to want to keep human feces out of my drinking water.

You know all these food recalls of vegetables and meat, they are because we are putting these 3rd world workers to work in food production with low sanitation norms. There was just a recall of 6 Million pounds of ground beef.

It's obvious that the SHTF could has an any time (shit hit the fan)... So, I should keep some sufficient amount of food to get me through a winter (where I can't grow food), I should attempt to have a garden big enough to not only survive a summer on, but a winter of canned goods. I should have rainwater collection (which can also be filtered to drinking water), a water filter that can turn one scum water to drinkable, alternate heating/cooking (wood stove, rocket stove, etc)...

Not sure I'm there, but probably a lot better than most. I could lose power and roads for a month+ and easily survive.
