Would a pump action shotgun with slugs suffice? Or would a lever action be better?

Most guides up there make do with .308 or 30-06.

In those temps, make sure you use a lubricant that won't freeze up. The Soviets were well known to use lard instead of oil. I believe Alaskan Scouts used Seal Oil.

Hey man, what's your reloading setup?

I'm getting an idea of what to start with.

Dillon's got a nice looking site.

Some unsolicited advice (but I expect Carlus won't object): Here are what I consider to be the industry standards for the last 35+ years; browse these sites and do some googling and reading; you'll have a pretty good idea after a while of what you want to shop for.

Actually I'm not extremely strong on reloading, too many friends that are good at it. Plus, no one should take gun tips from me right now. I just dug out 2 RUSTY 1911 mags out of the truck door. I guess snow fell in there over the winter when I opened the door.

I've always used Lee for shotshell; their reputation in brass is solid also.
