Qwant is French and interesting sometimes. Yandex is Russian. I believe Start and DuckDuck both use google but supposedly don't do the thing that it do where it invades your privacy.

Ultimately there really isn't a competitor for google but using these when you are trying to find something that you know is being blackballed by SJW google can be helpful .
I do not use it on principle because it is the biggest search engine and there is 0 financial loss for me. That and some political reasons.

There is nothing that rivals Google in terms of precision and recall. DuckDuckGo is fucking awful. I use as a default, but it's fucking awful. I have to go to Google often to find something.

To compete with Google, you really need to purchase a really good GIS service that you can integrate into your search services as well. Google does things ontologically that make the results really good that I am not sure anybody else can even repeat because of the crazy software patent laws.

I'm trying https://searx.me/ now. It's very powerful once you figure out how to use it. As a programmer I especially appreciate the "IT" tab. Reverse image search is bit harder since it doesn't add it to the context menu in chrome when set as default search engine but I can work around it when I need to.

This is way out of my area, so I could be wrong, but as I understand it, Google's page rank is based largely on what people are currently clicking on. If there was a bunch of googled 'sponsored content' results eating up the page, that would be one thing, but you can't blame google for the fact that the public eats up Ebil Trump articles.
HAIL!

Her needs America so they won't just take his shit away like in some pussy non gun totting countries can happen.

Page ranks are set by keywords, and how "relevant" the web crawler finds them to the search. It has nothing to do with popularity.
The crawler/algorithms can be adjusted at-will by Google, though, and it seems that they are.
