I'm going to run a test run starting today.

It's still freezing at night and will be for the next few weeks.

I appreciate you guys helping me find a possible solution.
Make sure it’s not too dry down there. You don’t want to dry them. Ideally you want them spread out not to deep to avoid pressure on the bottom. Placed on earth you can get them to go into hibernation. That is the goal. Other fruit dies when you pick them and you just try to delay the decay. A potato is more like a seed, not dead and not yet alive. If it doesn’t sprout or rot you can keep it for a looong time.
How much are people freaking out from this thing in Scandinavia and are Finnish people white, thank you!
Different story for different countries. Sweden is freaking out the least, which is freaking out a lot of people. Time will tell who is right.
The fact of the matter is that our country was so badly prepared for this that the only option they had was to try to come with rationalizations for doing as little as they do. We have no stock of PPE. It was all just outsourced to the lowest bider JIT supplier. We do next to no tracing because we don't have the resources. Same with testing. When you can do very little, the best thing to do is to promote the idea of doing very little.

Are Finns white? That is a philosophical question. One obvious answer is yes, because they are pale and mostly blond. Another answer is no, since the black/white dichotomy is an American invention and the Finns aren't Americans.
In a Swedish context you could say that as a large group of immigrants the Finns at one time were at the bottom of the society as new arrivals with a different culture, struggling with the language, lots of violence and alcoholism. You could argue they were our version of blacks. Now they are well established. Other groups have taken their place at the bottom. The new groups are even more different from Swedes than the Finns were. The Finns are to Sweden a bit like the Irish to the US.

I am very glad Sweden and Brazil are acting as Control Groups for the rest of the world. In time, it will give us a better understanding of what happened.

BTW Finns are not Caucasians, though they are white. Finns are unique like Basques.

Not completely alone. They are the same group as Ests and Hungarians.

As Hastur says, different stories for different countries. Denmark's taking it pretty seriously, but wouldn't say we're "freaking out" here. There are limitations on close-proximity public gatherings of ten (or two) people unless they're family, shopping centers and malls are ordered closed, gyms are closed, barbers and hairdressers closed, non-medically required physical therapy and massage is shut off, too. And so are restaurants, hotels and bars.

Grocery shopping is still possible, though. And people are using public parks more, though they're well spread out and kids are encouraged not to play with kids from other "picnic groups". Generally people have taken to the whole social distancing thing fairly quickly.

There's mostly a general sentiment of: "Well, it has to take the time it needs to take". Most public statements of concern is about the future of their jobs.
Fame is not flattery. Respect is not agreement.

Would you describe the government of Sweden's response as a lagom one?

Yup. That's what it is.

Every one of you should start growing food. Even if it is a small amount, that is that much less demand on veggies come Fall.

I doubt we will completely run out of vegetables, but I also doubt there is going to be as much as you are used to. The developing world is set for collapse. They are burning bodies in the streets of Ecuador, for example, and Brazil is digging mass graves. The borders are closed and there might not be much migration happening to keep the fragile corporate agricultural system running come harvest time. Also, nations are very likely to cut off exports of anything strategic to survive the pandemic (already beginning to happen) and that very well could include food.

I suspect we will have plenty of grains like corn since so much is automated in that. Probably a lot of factory chicken, etc.

You might see tomatoes, etc. which can be grown locally just about anywhere, but the prices might be pretty high.

The time to prep for the lock down is over. The new preps, imho, are preparing your body and immune system to best survive this disease and preparing for major economic disruptions. There is fuck all most of us can do about Great Depression 2.0, but growing vegetables is pretty easy and we are coming up on sow dates in a few weeks for most of CONUS.

Bad news: nurseries might sell out of the decent seedlings soon.

Any country which relies on migrant labour to plant and harvest crops is going to struggle.
We were already having problems post Brexit with a loss of EU farm migrants but now the borders are locked the farmers are getting really worried.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.
