Oh I don't fight that stuff. Taxpayer's dime is not sentimentality's blank check.

We try to do our bit.
We still have Nelson's Victory, Brunel's Great Britain( coincidentally brought back from the Falklands where it was used as a floating warehouse ), the Cutty Sark and Chichesters Gypsy Moth the first solo circum-navigation yacht. Plus Henry VIII's Mary Rose.
Can't keep them all, there just isn't room.

For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Is Great Britain suddenly short of docking space?Montegriffo wrote:We try to do our bit.

Maritime nation dear boy. If we kept them all and lined them up across the Atlantic our refugees could walk all the way to your front door.

Nah, just hang onto the ones with songs or poems written about them. Maybe one from each era of military advancement. We've got this shit down.Montegriffo wrote:Maritime nation dear boy. We do our bit here in the land of the Iceni, This is the Norfolk Wherry Albion, one of only two remaining trading barges and available for charter
A relic from the Victorian era around 120 years old, gaff rigged, flat bottomed with counter balanced masts, for the boaty geeks out there. Yes I'm looking at you Scandinavia.

A bit of spirited racing from the regular regattas, this one is from the mostly Edwardian pleasure cruiser class.

Ooops
this looks like Barton Broad where I moored my little boat, a few of the 9 remaining Wherries in existence.

Talking of stats, as we were about 10 pages ago, the one I haven't seen us beat since we got here is users online. Sept 12th this year there were 28 users online and 18 is the highest number I have noticed since we got here. New members still slowly arriving upto 108 now with RaymondMef being the latest. 4 new members today in fact. Cid managing a 53 post first day so far.
