As I thought that he claimed to be Scottish and Italian. Where is this English thing come from?

I'll go through this one more time for you as you clearly have the memory span of a goldfish with altziemers.
I am 1/4 Northern Irish and 1/4 English on my Fathers side and 1/4 Gibraltan and 1/4 English on my mothers side. My mother is a Montegriffo which is of Italian origin but for at least 4 centuries the Montegriffos have lived in Gibraltar since fleeing Italy after being chased out by the Franks. I have never claimed to be a Scot at any point only that my fathers surname has it's own Tartan but that is true of the majority of English surnames.
I am therefore 100% British.

By "Northern Irish" do you mean Ulster Scot? If so, then you are technically a Scot- right?

No, by Northern Irish I mean protestant, loyalist Irish which is British. I'm technically British with no recent Scottish ancestors that I'm aware of.
Being British means I'm a total mongrel and could have anything from central European Celtic to Viking or even Iceni blood if you go back far enough. I might be part Roman, Norman,Cornish and Pict for all I know. With 8000 years or more to go back to and even Neanderthal possibilities who knows what I really am.

Ok I'll amend my rash statement to not knowing the difference between chips and a French fries.
That looks delicious but I'd have trouble naming it as it's not sautéed or parmentier potatoes due to the irregular cut neither cubed nor sliced. Fried potato hash possibly? Hash simply meaning chopped.

The Northern Irish themselves are a mix of English and lowland Scots plus original Gaels and later Anglo-Normans.So 1/4 Northern Irish does not make me Scottish.
To be real Scot I'd need to be a Pict or a Gael as the Scottish from the original Kingdom of Scotland (or Alba) in the 9th century were ethnolinguist Celts from central Europe. Scotti is a latin word specifically aimed at Gaels but later Anglo Saxons and Cumbrian Britons (also Celtic speaking) plus Norsemen have also been include as Scots.

I'm 50% English if you take a more reasonable approach and only go back as far as my Grand Parents and I could not qualify to play rugby for Scotland only Ireland or England by RFU rules.

So still not Scottish however much you would like me to be.

Regardless of any of this, in 3 generations, your family will look back upon you and say "French". You are a French landowner, you are French. Time to adapt, silly frog.
