Re: DCF Refugee Internment Camp
The Wars of French Hegemonic Succession; the American colonists dragged the British Crown into it, kicking and screaming, but once the powder keg was lit, the British had no choice but to simply go for all the marbles in a global war, the more the British resisted the overthrow of the status quo, the more the British tried to keep the war with the French Hegemon a cold war instead of a hot war, the more the Americans revolted against them.
Even when the British had defeated the French, they did not go far enough for the Americans, because the British were still clinging to their First Nations allies, and placing that relationship above the interests of the American colonists, at which point, the American colonists went into open revolt against the Crown.

Ah, I'd not heard of the Ohio Company before. I was assuming they were a version of the British East India Company but in America. Seems my gap in knowledge about this period is biggly.Smitty-48 wrote:The British weren't in control of it, the Ohio Company inciting the French and Indian War in order to ultimately eject the French from the Ohio Valley so that the Americans could have it for themselves, is the first volley, of the Americans revolution against their own Crown. For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

The East India Company was different, the East India Company was mercantilist, extract resources from India for the industries in England, then export the products made to the rest of the Empire.Montegriffo wrote:Ah, I'd not heard of the Ohio Company before. The Ohio Company were land speculators, take the Ohio Valley from the French and Indians, then parcel it up and sell it to sucessive waves of colonists at a massive profit.

Ah, a subject upon which I am not out of my depth.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Trebuchet = French. Just accept it buddy.
Only the word is French, the origins of the counterweight trebuchet are in the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean in the 12th century and not in France at all.
Mike and I had a chat about extending the height of our existing frame and the building of a longer and stronger laminated beam over our game of pool today.

Wikipedia traces it to the Byzantines in 1099. The first mention was by a Muslim historian, but it looks like Emperor Konstantinos had the big idea.
Now the question is whether that makes it Greek or Roman...

They copied after us man, the French were just much closer to their king and queen- and someone just invented the guillotine around at the same time. The only thing that was able to save the heads of Parliament and King George, was well, an ocean.Montegriffo wrote:Sure, it was your right to copy the French and become republicans.Speaker to Animals wrote:Montegriffo wrote:

After the battle of Culloden your Jacobites had no more claim to the throne......
So America was right.

I do admire many things about American culture though including some lovely cars, music, pool, basketball, beatniks and best of all Texas Hold 'Em.
I just enjoy trolling you for laughs. No need to get all Flipowitz about it Penny
