Gene Wolfe writes like a poet. When I got older and switched genres, I found James Lee Burke.

Gene Wolfe writes like a poet. When I got older and switched genres, I found James Lee Burke.

I came across a new rendition of the Epic of Gilgamesh by John David Ebert and it reads very well. He tries some stylistic innovations, but they aren't jarring.
