Building a PC.

Post by The Conservative » Sun Nov 01, 2020 7:00 pm

Last time I build a PC was a Pentum 2. (I've been a laptop user for we'll over a decade)

I've gone the Ryzen route, Ryzen 3800XT. I have a Qx-2000 case and ill tell you right now it's been way too long since I have put a PC together from scratch.

Basic set up is:

Ryzen 3800XT
Gigabyte B550M
32 GB ram 3200Mhz
Silicon Power 512GB 3,400/2,300MB
1TB (same as above specs)

8TB WD Gold drive.

Should last me a while.

I'll get a Video card soon. But haven't decided on what yet.

Make sure your OS is on an SSD, or it’s all for nothing.

Yup, I have a 500GB straight for the OS/games etc. The 1TB is going to be data storage, and the 8TB is going to be for backup.

NVidia 3070 is $500; can’t beat that; and if you’re a programmer, there’s the NeMo APIs.

I'm looking at the 2070 Super

The 3070 is good, don't get me wrong but if you can find one for $500 you are doing better than most.

The list is $499; much cheaper than the 2000 series. Scalpers ran the price up but give it a month.

I'll look at it next month, for now I have some debugging to do. My power supply arrived DOA.
