For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

I've seen them all, Keon, Sittler, Vaive, Gilmour, SundinMontegriffo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 6:42 pmSittler, I was trying to remember his name without looking it up but I failed.Montegriffo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 6:33 pmWho has the Leafs record? Matthews and Marner are already better than all of them, in terms of raw skill.

I watched that game in real time, as a boy in 1976.Montegriffo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 6:42 pmSittler, I was trying to remember his name without looking it up but I failed.Montegriffo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 6:33 pmWho has the Leafs record? Was it that guy who got 10 points in a single game?
That's a good example of how you have to adjust for the era, because that goaltender was not like they are now
It's like Gretzky's 92 goal season, that will never be duplicated, the game is completely different now
The quality of the teams, the defensive systems, and the goaltending; has made it exponentially harder to score
Scoring 50 goals now is like scoring 80 goals back then.
Used to be you'd have ten guys score 50+ in a season in the league, now it's one or two, sometimes none.

It's like they won't even take a shot if Matthews is open.

Marner to Matthews again, Matthews now only 4 goals behind Pastrnak. He's closing the gap fast.
Now that they've put Marner with Matthews, catching Pastrnak is very doable.

See, I watched Rick Vaive score 54 goals in 1982, and great as that was, Matthews is on a whole nother level.Montegriffo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 7:10 pmIt's like they won't even take a shot if Matthews is open.
You are watching the greatest Leaf goal scorer of all time, it's not even close.

Marner skated right in front of the goal and anyone else would have taken the shot but he was unselfish and let Matthews have the glory.

This is an historic duo in the making, these two playing together are going to break all the franchise recordsMontegriffo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 7:16 pmMarner skated right in front of the goal and anyone else would have taken the shot but he was unselfish and let Matthews have the glory.

Matthews' timing is so good. He knows just how to be in the right place at the right time.

This is why these two didn't like Babcock. Babcock refused to let them play together, that's why he got fired.Montegriffo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 7:23 pmMatthews' timing is so good. He knows just how to be in the right place at the right time.
