The Russian the Leafs signed from the KHL, Ilya Mikheyev, he's looking pretty serviceable.

Can't really tell till you see them playing on NHL ice, but he's not Par Lindholm 2.0

He's got wheels, he can fly, and he's good at forcing turnovers and he hounds pucks.

I can see why Babs likes him, Mikheyev is definitively making the team based on what I'm seeing.

He's playing with Kerfoot and they seem to be a fit.

Kerfoot still looks like he's adjusting to a new environment, but he looks fast, he can fly too.

Kerfoot is decently fast, and at his size, he needs to be.

He doesn't play small, doesn't shy away from contact, goes hard to the net.

Babcock has him killing penalties, you can see that it's new for him, but he seems to be picking it up.

Quick with a quick stick, he has the skills, he just has to work on his positioning a bit.

Selke Kerfoot is never going to be a thing.

When it comes to things he needs to work on, learning to shoot on occasion would be at the top, he's Captain Overpass.

Kadri is bad defensively, so that's a wash.

Kadri doesn't kill penalties, if Kerfoot can kill penalties that's a bonus.

I don't think the Leafs need Kerfoot to score that many goals, 15-20 is fine.

They look like they will deploy him as second powerplay half board playmaker.

Would be nice to have a 3C who kills penalties tho.

Doesn't have to be Selke, that's not what penalty killing is about, all you have to do on the PK is work hard.

Kadri is better defensively than Kerfoot. Kerfoot killing penalties seems like a pipe dream.

Kadri is useless defensively, he's one of the worst offenders on the Leafs in terms of floating, missed assignments and running around in the defensive zone, so if Kerfoot is worse than Kadri defensively that doesn't bode well.

Mind you Kadri wasn't actually deployed in a defensive role, he's an agitator who play physical but he's not that interested in playing defense, he more runs around looking for the big hits and takes dumb penalties,

Also, Kadri can play center. Kerfoot is no guarantee to stick there, Bednar Knows.

I wouldn't trust Kerfoot to stick at center or kill penalties, barring a big improvement in his game. The Alexander Kerfoot who played for the Colorado Avalanche certainly couldn't pull it off.

Kadri is defeinitely a center, but he's not a checking center in the defensive sense, he's a body checker not a tight checker.

Kadri needs the puck in the offensive zone and on the power play.

Although he was shooting blanks on the power play last year so I'd rather have Johnsson in there now.
