Fight Club

Figured we should have a thread about fighting that is not sport-specific.

There are some really interesting thoughts in here about socio-economic factors in training.

Yeah this guy is right on the money about fighters from former Soviet countries, how fighting is much more normal for them than in other parts of the world, and what seems like good wrestling to him, is average to them.

As for some other really interesting thoughts on socio-economic factors and history of the region, that drive fighting in former Soviet-bloc countries, MixedMollyWhoppery has got some great videos that focus in on Dagestan specifically, as it produces more quality fighters per capita than anywhere else on the planet.

The best American boxers have come from races that are always the most downtrodden immigrants and blacks. The history mirrors the group at the time

American MMA is somewhat higher class for some reason.

Is Daegestan as dominant in Olympic wrestling as it is in MMA?

If you watch up to the part where he is sparring with that European dude in the old fort, you can see how this Haitian fencing style has roots in West Africa like capoeira. He is using footwork that is very similar to the ginga.

African martial arts are highly underrated right now, in my opinion.

Even more so, for a country of 3 million people, the amount of high level talent they produce is staggering.

Sure, you could watch a video and try to do a poor imitation, but I learned that on the streets. Life is a great teacher, and it took me years of practice to get to that level. For a small fee I could demonstrate to you certain moves with a blade, how to parry and what not.

Apparently Uriah Faber is coming back

And I guarantee that McGregor is pulling a Jay Z with the "retirement" shit

Damn it Urijah, just stay retired, you've got nothing else to prove, and only brain cells to lose.

It's his life, but obvious wrong call is obvious.

McGregor retired before, pre-Floyd Mayweather fight, I wasn't fooled back then either, obvious negotiating tactic is obvious, and even if it's not a negotiation tactic, never believe any MMA fighter when they say they are retiring, most them come back, even when they shouldn't, see Urijah Faber.

I dunno . . . the "Don't Tempt a Virgo" style is lacking.

I did not say random black dudes fighting. I said African style martial arts.
