ENGLISH Defence League leader Stephen Lennon has been blasted for backing a paedophile who helped to set up the far-right organisation.Lennon, also known as Tommy Robinson, backed the group’s founder member Richard Price, 41, after he was convicted of child porn charges.


Officers found the sick snaps at his home after he was arrested for breaking police lines during an EDL rally. He was later put on the Sex Offenders’ Register after admitting downloading the images.


After he was jailed for three months for threatening behaviour at the rally, the EDL launched a campaign to free him and Lennon claimed Price had been “stitched up”.He said: “Richard Price had his house unfairly raided by West Midlands Police.


“They informed him that they had found five photographs of children on the computer. Price has no idea how they were on his computer.”


After a barrage of criticism from EDL members, Lennon later retracted the statement and said: “We completely condemn Richard Price.”


But one EDL member said: “I’m quitting. A great street movement has a paedo in its leadership ranks.”

Interestingly, the same reporting restrictions placed on the case in Leeds were also applied in the case of former EDL member Peter Gillet when he was in court for child grooming and rape...

A Littlehampton man has been sentenced to 18 years imprisonment over a series of child sex offences in Crawley.

Former EDL member Peter joins other EDL members in receiving long sentences for child sex offences none of which have been highlighted by their former leader, one Tommy Robinson. This is somewhat surprising given the horrific nature of the abuse and the grooming.

Peter Gillett, 59, self-employed, of Arundel Road, Littlehampton, had been convicted at Lewes Crown Court on Friday (16 February) of a series of seven counts of non-recent sexual offences in Crawley, some involving multiple occasions, against two young girls and a young boy, all known to him.

Sentencing awaited the outcome of a separate trial for Gillett for possession of a stun gun found at his address when he was arrested in 2016.

That trial took place at Hove Crown Court on 8 October. He was convicted of that offence too and was given a 12-month sentence to run concurrently with the sex offence sentencing.

A court-imposed reporting restriction had prohibited publication of news of the sex offence sentences until the stun gun offence was dealt with.

All but one of the sex offences related to the period between 1988 and 1990,

Gillett will also be a registered sex offender for life.

He was convicted of;
– two counts of rape, two of indecent assault, one count of multiple offences of rape and indecent assault, one of causing actual bodily harm, against a girl then aged between 13 and 15;
– one count of gross indecency, and a count of child cruelty, against a boy then aged between 8 and 15 – the child cruelty count related to the period 1988 to 1996;
– one count of indecent assault against a girl then aged between 13 and 15.

The British far-right activist Tommy Robinson has not been granted a US visa in time to meet with Republican members of Congress in Washington this week, according to an organiser of the meeting.

Robinson is the founder of the English Defence League (EDL) which in the past has staged violent demonstrations against Islam.

Robinson was released from bail conditions at the Old Bailey earlier this month after his contempt of court appeal was sent to the attorney general for a hearing. He has a string of previous convictions in Britain and was jailed by British authorities in 2013 for using a passport in someone else’s name to travel to the United States from Britain.


Daniel Pipes, president of the conservative Philadelphia-based Middle East Forum which invited Robinson to the US, said the British activist recently applied for a visa at the US Embassy in London but now realises it “will take a while” for him to be allowed into the country.

Robinson had planned to attend an event focusing on Islam that seven conservative Republican members of the US House of Representatives convened for Wednesday.

In October the Guardian reported that Robinson could make more than £1m from his US trip – making him one of the best funded far-right figures since the second world war, according to an analysis by anti-fascist campaigners.


Fifty-five British lawmakers from both major political parties recently wrote to the US secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, requesting that Washington ban Robinson from visiting. They said they were concerned he would use a US visa to launch a fundraising tour.

The 35-year-old has growing support in the US. Joe Mulhall, a senior researcher at Hope not Hate, said: “The inevitable media coverage that will surround the visit will no doubt lead to an increase in his already significant monthly donations from America.”
