Armistice Day

Post by Okeefenokee » Sat Nov 11, 2017 1:22 am

Remember
Remember
Those who fought and fell
So we could be free
The sacrifice they made
So brave and valiant
Their lives they gave
Gone, but they live on in memory
So bow your head
Now standing still
In silence we will all pray
To learn and live
In peace and justice
Armistice day
November
November
The clock strikes ten
And then eleven will ring
The silence of respect
For those that history can't forget
Now for them a song of nights we sing
So bow your head
Now standing still
In silence we will all pray
To learn and live
In peace and justice
Armistice day
Happy veteran's day.

Cancelled in Houston. A local radio host is hosting it now so I assume he got permits. He got one of the most successful businessmen in Houston to be the parade marshal or whatever. Guess it's back on. Civic duty and all.

It went like this,

What time is it? Oh, we missed it. Well, really it was just me that missed it. No, wait. It's really tomorrow. Eleven eleven.

What's the significance of eleven eleven?

It's the end of the war.

Oh yeah. That was in 1939, right?

No, 1918.

We shouldn't have been there.

This was our panacea.

Matt LeBlanc's touching tribute to the fallen
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.

We had an excellent assembly for Veteran’s Day yesterday. The choir and orchestra sounded amazing performing the Star Spangled Banner.

Local veterans came out to be part of the color guard and there was some good speechifying by the principal. The main speaker dragged on a bit relating the story of Calvin Graham (not a good idea in a hot, overcrowded gym with over 1000 middle school students), but they were really patient and focused.

Right before it started, we had one knucklehead start encouraging his easily led droogs to sit for the anthem for the lulz. Another teacher and I overheard him, thankfully.
We had a WW2 veteran in attendance who was there to see his great grandkid sing and there was no way we were going to let the kid draw any attention away from the ceremony. We quietly pulled him out and had him stand to the edge where he couldn’t draw attention to himself, and hopefully still learn something in the process. At the

Next week, I’m inviting him to lunch for a few days so he can have a 1-1 lesson on the history of Armistice/Veterans Day starting with Flanders probably.

Hontar: We must work in the world, your eminence. The world is thus.

Altamirano: No, Señor Hontar. Thus have we made the world... thus have I made it.

Happy Remembrance and Veterans Day !

Just got back from the local parade and event. Drove the old jeep in the parade hauling around veterans who couldn't walk it. Had a short ceremony at Memorial Park. VFW Post commander talked briefly about veterans and the horses of WWI. 14 Million horses in the war, 8 Million died on the field of battle.
Taps, and National Anthem............. no one took a knee. :D

Drink of choice for me today. Crown and Coffee.
