What Impresses People?
I'm sure I've told everyone in here multiple times, but I'm the only person in the world with doctorates in medicine, law & science, who also has simultaneous licenses to practice all 3. (I do a lot more but let's start with that.) I did it because it's the most impressive thing ever... In my opinion. It's rarer & way more difficult to achieve than any athelete, and movie stars aren't anything special either. Imagine my surprise when I found out most people don't give a Tinker's Damn?! Many, maybe even most, people are dismissive & downright nasty when they find out. There is one group who respond like I expected: young, White males. Not all, mind you, half are still nasty. Theories anyone?
p.s. I thought I'd bring this up while StA is taking a 10-count.

Pffft,
I give my daughter some tylenol, use hot water to heat up her milk, and then enforce the law if she doesn't want to go night-night.
Medicine, science, and law, no degrees required. Not even licensed.

You don't even have a B.S. in engineering yet? Do you think you're going for a Masters? Do you have any idea how difficult an Engineering PhD is? I'm willing to bet you'll never become a Professional Engineer. I guess if you have no respect for your own chosen career, how can you for any other?Okeefenokee wrote:Pffft,

I guess we can say it's impressively easy to get your goat, then eh?

Re: What Impresses People?
It is an impressive academic and professional achievement, no doubt.
I imagine the lack of enthusiasm you see comes from one of two places:
1. People think you're trying to show off or otherwise belittle them by highlighting your own monumental achievements. They see it as a power grab for social prestige and resent it.
2. People see it as superfluous. By this I mean they may view it like video game achievements that are nice, but meaningless when it comes to impacting the world. Sure, you got your law degree and can practice law - but are you any good at it? Where's the beef? What cases might they know you from? Sure, you're an MD, but who have you treated? What lives have you saved? What procedures have you innovated? Great, you have a CompSci PhD but what technology empires have you built? AKA - are you actually good at things, are are you simply good at being licensed for things?
Could be plain ol' jealousy too - but usually, we're jealous of people who succeed at things we desire but fail to achieve. How many folks out there really want to be Doctor/Lawyer/CompSci PhD's and failed at it?

It's like the trillion dollar debt. I can't wrap my mind around it so I just acknowledge it's real if you say it is.

Re: What Impresses People?
There are literally millions of people who have failed at medical, science & law doctorates, and many that have achieved the degree have failed licensing.
