Finally got around to watching The Pacific.
3 episodes left. It's a bit of a grind in places, not as watchable as Band of Brothers.
Yeah, I found the Leckie thread more enjoyable than the others. Probably because he was the real writer, though his prose is pretty overwrought by modern standards. That and Dale is a pretty good actor, was great in the short lived spook series Rubicon. The script was cobbled together from his and Sledge's memoirs plus the story of Basilone. That said, the Iwo Jima & Okinawa sequences were harrowing. I was rewatching it earlier this year, and stopped before that.
Yeah, they are in the next 2 episodes.
Not getting to know the characters very well. A couple of times I've not been sure who just died.
Probably needs watching twice to get a hold of all the names.
The battle scenes have been shot well enough but they're all a bit same-same.
Might watch Band of Brothers again, it's been a while so have probably forgotten a lot of it.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

The war in France had more variety and better landscapes.
The Pacific war was the same thing over and over.

Nah. There were some incredible battles in the Pacific. That series just didn't capture it well.

It's the jumping between the groups of characters that gets confusing. I felt the Guadalcanal section was most successful, and the sequence on Pavuvu of how stressful even garrison was.

Identifying characters was why I guessed as the reason few major characters in GoT ever wore helmets or hats, even at The Wall.
We are only accustomed to dealing with like twenty online personas at a time so when we only have about ten people some people have to be strawmanned in order to advance our same relative go nowhere nonsense positions. -TheReal_ND

But it was so much more intense, the Germans always counterattacked, but if that failed they capitulated.

The Japanese were more tenacious than the North Vietnamese,

they didn't quit, had to turn the flamethrowers on them.

Well, actually not so much a grind, since you were Island Hopping, so intense fights, for smaller pieces of ground

You're in the naval war at all times in the Pacific.

I'm more interested in the Cold War and Vietnam anyways, war is boring without hydrogen bombs.
