Chien nucleaire.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

When you go to hell and back with the infantry, it makes everything else taste the sweeter.

You'll never sleep so good. You'll never fuck so good.

You'll never feel it so good, as when you come out of the field.

When they called Endex on my Section Commanders Course, it was truly bliss.

Youngest soldier to have ever passed the course. 19 years old.

Everybody else on the course was a Corporal, I was still a Private Soldier.

94 men started the course. All better men than me in my estimation.

14 were standing at the end. I was 14th. 10 days no sleep, going round the clock.

Endex. Congratulations. You passed.

Existential Bliss.

My father was there. Didn't know he was coming.

I had been in the field for 16 weeks, no contact with the outside world.

They literally housed our course in an underground nuclear bunker that wasn't in use anymore.

Then we went into the field and were tactical for two months straight.

But since I didn't call, my father assumed I must have passed somehow.

So he drove 7 hours to be at my grad parade.

As we right wheeled onto the parade square, he was face to face with in the crowd, just smiling, and nodding.

I'll take that to my grave, no doubt.

When my father died, the Regimental Sergeant Major drove that same 7 hours to be at his funeral.

I used to feel my ancestors looking down on me too

I think they will at least get a kick out of it. I am unable to make promises. My word. I try my best.

My word is this. Before the year ends I will be in France at a stupid place begging to get in.

My word is thus: I am neither a lender or borrower be. I earn my keep. If I fall out I fall out but it won't be from lack of trying which I here now pledge my word to

For my son at least. Fml

This is it. The chance to keep a solemn oath undertaken unto death as necessary.

Once you are Legion, that says it all.

Just follow the instructions, and don't quit.

That's the secret, every time the temptation to get on the truck wells up, you just cram that shit down and keep going.

Sing a song. Think of something else. Look out through your eyes, detached, like its happening to someone else.
