So I've been talking to another group of tech-savvy people, some say it was the DNS server, others are saying an update of a BGP router is what caused it. They say is may have affected everything including people being locked out of doors and fob required systems... hence the long time it took them to resolve it.

Either way, this is a massive issue, and there was no real backup plan, the recovery plan didn't have this in its portfolio...
