Indeed. That explains why the stories peddling this scenario often cite the recently de-funded EMP Comission. Jesus, how bad of a commission do you have to be for Congress to take your funding? Congress funds people to study ketchup.Smitty-48 wrote:Yeah, basically, it's the ultimate prepper fantasy scenario, Americans themselves as the only existential threat to other Americans, the North Koreans merely the vehicle by which America's natural inclination to destroy itself comes to pass.DBTrek wrote:We went through the 1800s without electricity, and managed not to go mass-cannibal. Well the principle opponents are the power companies, because they do not believe that the cost of hardening is warranted based on the likelihood of an EMP attack and only an EMP attack, in the event of nuclear war, and they do not want those costs mandated on them, because they'd have to pass that through to you, on your electricity bills, and they know what you're going to say about that, and so do most members of congress.DBTrek wrote:Indeed. Or .... or ... maybe one centrally located blast won’t actually destroy all power infrastructure from coast to coast.
Given that we’ve set nukes off above ground in this country without even knocking out the power infrastructure for a city block, I’m inclined to lean toward the historical record.

Well you did set one off over Johnston Island in the Pacific on 9 July 1962, Operation Starfish Prime, a 1.4 megaton thermonuclear device detonated in the ionosphere in order to test the EMP effects, and it did blow out some streetlights in Hawaii, and caused burglar alarms to go off.DBTrek wrote:Or .... or ... maybe one centrally located blast won’t actually destroy all power infrastructure from coast to coast.

Smitty owns majority share in a company that makes iodine tablets. He is quivering in glee at the idea of a nuclear exchange, because he would make a killing. Dangerous war profiteers like Smitty only want to keep America weak and open to attack.

Not familiar with it. But I’d note that some street lights and car alarms are significantly different than destroying the entire national power infrastructure.

How long did it take you to get your company off the ground, if you don't mind me asking? Website looks good.DBTrek wrote:It’s called a side hustle.heydaralon wrote:Didn't you do IT? How did you get into hair care products?DBTrek wrote:Yep.

Do you have any business partners or are you flying solo on this?

Creating the product and sourcing materials from various manufacturers took about 5 months. The website took about a day.heydaralon wrote: How long did it take you to get your company off the ground, if you don't mind me asking? Website looks good.
Solo venture.
eCommerce is fairly easy to get into if you have a product idea and a little time to learn the various pieces you have to put in place to go live.
We just don’t teach folks how to do it for some reason.

I think it would do damage, but the scenario being invoked here; "12 high yield hydrogen bombs delivered to the CONUS" evenly spaced out over the territory in order to generate comprehensive EMP effect; if you can do that, you can do anything, and so there's no reason to stop there, if you can deliver 12 high yield hydrogen bombs to the CONUS, you can totally devastate the country, because that's the 12 largest cities in America, at which point, you could have your cake and it eat to, if America is going to implode by nuclear attack, radioactive fallout would be the most irreversible method of achieving that.DBTrek wrote:Not familiar with it.
