SAN FRANCISCO, CA (WCMH) — The cost of living in the San Francisco’s Bay Area continues to rise, so much that a low end six-figure salary is now considered “low-income.”

In San Francisco and San Mateo Counties, a family of four making $105,350 or less is now considered low income by the federal government Department of Housing and Urban Development. That means they can qualify for affordable housing.

“They are eligible now to apply for housing through the local housing authority, be it Section 8, be it public housing, or other HUD-subsidized programs,” HUD Regional Public Affairs Officer and Homeless Liaison Ed Cabrera told KRON-TV.

To put this in perspective, the average household income for a family of four in the rest of the United States is $55,775. “Low income” families make $24,399 on average.

The last time section 8 waitlist in Marin was open was in 2008, and I believe the list is years long in the rest of the Bay Area. So, unless you applied during the few days the list was open to new applicants nine years ago...

And the current ruling parties aren't doing so well themselves.

No way. This is genius. I think communists should seriously consider migrating to California. California is so progressive and enlightened. So tolerant.

Oh yeah, so long as you think Good Thought, they are so tolerant.

Otherwise it's double plus ungood.

But that seems to be an American trend nowadays.

heydaralon wrote:California does have some cool scenery and forests. From a nature standpoint, its one of the most beautiful states. I've always wanted to see Big Sur and Yosemite.

When people think of California, they think of LA, and San Francisco. Those are the two population centers, and those are the shittiest parts of the state. Outside of the Bay Area and Southern California, California is quite conservative. But the state is enormous, so it is really diverse. It's beautiful too. And the places you've named, are just a tiny, tiny part of the natural beauty. There are so many beautiful areas in the Sierra Nevadas, it's really quite unlike any other place in the world. Also, there are so many fantastic secluded beaches you can get to. the Northern California coast is gorgeous. Redwood forest meets beach, it's unreal.

LA kinda sucks, but you can make the best of it. There is some cool stuff to do, but it's basically unlivable if you need to get around. It's pretty dirty and ugly in a lot of places. It's just a very, very poorly run city. The local government is so inept and has been for decades. San Francisco has some great architecture, there is some culture going on, and there is a ton to do. Obviously there is a lot tech and business. It's really poorly run too, probably the worst is the stranglehold the oligarchs have on the housing market. They won't let anyone build so they can keep their fortunes. The city should look like New York, but they won't let it grow. It's terribly frustrating. Also, San Francisco is where a lot of the politics everybody loathes spawns, so many of the people there are kinda douchey. But still, it's like anywhere else, a lot of the people are just regular folks trying to get by. It's too bad too, because it's beautiful there, and its hard to not want to live somewhere like that once you get there. Both LA and SF actually. In LA, the weather is basically sunny but not too hot all year, shorts in January. SF is great, it's just brisk, a little wet, and cool all year. But San Diego takes the cake for best weather in the country if you ask me. Perfect weather year round. Anyway, there's lots to see and do, come visit!
