Also, if GoT is the best show on TV, Westworld is a very close second
What show are you watching right now?

Agree. WestWorld is on a whole different level of writing.heydaralon wrote:I think I may have liked westworld more than the later seasons of GoTCalifornia wrote:Apparently all the episodes of the last season are going to be feature-length.

Neither of those shows are close to the best show on TV, Game of Thrones is closer. I liked Westworld, but it certainly has it's flaws as well, the poor use of Anthony Hopkins, that was just disappointing, all those acting chops and basically all he did was smile cryptically all season. That's not top level writing, they had Hopkins for one season and that's how they used him? Come on guys. It would be one thing if we were going to get flashbacks that have him in them in future seasons, but Anthony Hopkins doesn't have time for that shit which is why he bailed after only one season, and never planned to do more than one season, which is why they were forced to kill him off when they did.California wrote:Apparently all the episodes of the last season are going to be feature-length.

Hopefully next season Westworld will live up to it's potential, but if it doesn't, as long as it stays on the rails, I'll still more than enjoy the hell out of it, the flaws are more than worth stomaching, at least so far. Not every show has to best show on TV, only one show at a time can have that honor, and I don't penalize shows for not living up to that standard. If one expects every TV show to be as good as Breaking Bad, The Wire, or The Sopranos, than you are just going to go home disappointed, and what is the point in that? I refuse to be that big of a TV snob, there are more than a few shows worth watching these days, if you've got the time, it's been a pretty good year for television this year, in particular.

BoJack Horseman gets real good after an okayish first season, well worth the payoff if you don't quit on the show, and that theme song is damn awesome, as is the end theme.
Plus it's on Netflix, so you can blow through it in no time. If you're looking for Netflix animated comedy, not a bad option. F is for Family is pretty good too, Bill Burr and all, and his character is probably the least compelling part of the show really, he's like Seinfeld, gives most of the best material to everyone else on the show.

You're right, everyone is better than the Bill Burr character but I loved that whole show

Isn't it technically not deus ex machina, if the "machina" is a Chekov's Gun? That negates the out of the blue nature of the deus ex machina at the very least. Isn't the issue with deus ex machina that something comes out of nowhere to get the writer out of a corner they wrote themselves into without proper set up?
When Tywin saved the day at the Battle of the Blackwater, we knew he was on the move, When Littlefinger saved they day at the Battle of the Bastards, we knew he was coming. See what I mean? Just because someone had awesome timing and rode in to save the day doesn't make me look down on the show, they set that shit up pretty well, when they went to that well, and both of those particular episodes are some of the best GoT episodes period.

I'm willing to forgive the big Vale rescue at the battle of the bastards, only because I presume Littlefinger wanted to wait and make a grand entrance, in order to ensure that the King of the North would be indebted to him.
That battle scene was fucking beautiful.
