Re: Socialism
All you need in the Hash economy is a gang of about 20 badass killers who accept drugs as pay to guard your warehouses full of dandelions.

You're an expert on Iran too? (I suppose if you found a black-market ice cream cone salesman willing to risk their pervasive government oversight where everyone is a snitch?)

Re: Socialism
This is where Libertarians totally fall off the boat, not understanding the ONLY Natural Right, The Right of Violence: it would TAKE a hell of a lot more than 20 badass killers to protect my dandelions from 330 million starving people.

I’m not an expert on Iran, but There are enough Persians in the Seattle area to convince me that someone in that country would realize the value of a million dollars and gladly sell me a cone for it. They’d probably move up their plans to re-visit America and spend it too.Martin Hash wrote: ↑Wed Jan 16, 2019 4:25 pmYou're an expert on Iran too? Does your expertise on Iran dictate otherwise?

Yes, we were not allowed to even carry U.S. money. I’m sure you could smuggle it in (I did $15K because I needed it in another country later), but asking around different ice cream vendors on who will take $1 million U.S. will turn you into an international incident.DBTrek wrote: ↑Wed Jan 16, 2019 4:32 pmI’m not an expert on Iran, but There are enough Persians in the Seattle area to convince me that someone in that country would realize the value of a million dollars and gladly sell me a cone for it. Unless the Iranian officials are open to a $1million bribe to let me go, I guess.
But it seems like pinning an economic argument to a particular currency which is considered contraband in a specific location only serves to muddy the waters.

Dude, you were comparing something imaginary to something real.

Dollars and dandelions are both real, I can mail you an example of each if you doubt.
/shrug
Wait ... is this how you got rich? Convincing people on the internet that you don’t believe dollars exist so they’ll send you one?
Offer retracted.

Any dollar from 1850-1860, for my collection, thank you very much. But I can’t buy an ice cream cone at Baskin’s with it because its value is only imaginary.

Re: Socialism
If I ask for all your dollars right now you wouldn’t give them up, because while we can’t isolate their value in physical reality, our society collectively agrees they hold value. They represent productivity/value, trapped in paper and bits of metal, passed among ourselves for services/goods. It lets us transcend a direct barter system which is infinitely clunkier, especially when those with what you need don’t want what you’re trading.
So sure, the value of a dollar is intangible, but that doesn’t make it nonexistent. Language is intangible, but we all use it. I don’t think anyone would argue that language is imaginary, since it only has value when agreed upon by a group of people. Like the value of a dollar, language is intangible but very real.
