Game of Thrones is really buckling now that they don't have George's books. I'm gonna see this thing to the end, but I'm absolutely going to complain about it. They made some really shitty choices. Dorne might have been the worst one, but there is some stiff competition in that department.

I don't think the show is off the rails just because they spent too much time in Dorne. The point A to point B traveling has always the worst part of Game of Thrones, but it's worth putting up with because the big moments are worth it. Last season was an upgrade in quality from the year before, so not seeing this downward trajectory of which you speak.

Re: What show are you watching right now?
That lady who was fucking the Viper or whatever his name is impressed the HBO guys so they added the entire Xena the Warrior Princess/Dorne plot to showcase her talent. They have admitted as much. I remember a lot less of that type of shit in the first three seasons. Probably the stupidest the show got until Dorne was when Denaryius went to the town of Catheter and those faggy Farscape chemo aliens took her dragons into that tower of Deus ex Machina. Now its like half the show is filled with subplots like that.
There's too much cheap powers going around on that show now. Arya can just kill an entire room of people easily because of the scooby doo mask. To be honest, her plot was a bit of a slog last season too. We got dragons, zombies, face masks etc. I feel like these things should be used sparingly (if at all), yet they are used to lurch the plot along and remove characters when the plot or show's budget can no longer accommodate them.. Season 8 will be Game of CGI. Guess what HBO? You don't have a monopoly on special effects. I watch your shit for the good writing and characters, not because of some gay ass dragons fighting guys in Essos dressed like a metro sexual version of Shredder from the Ninja turtles. Thats the other thing. All of the characters from Essos like Astrapol have such fake ridiculous looking costumes. It takes me out of the show, not least of all because I don't give an assfuck about anything happening in Essos. If GoT is not careful it could end up like the Walking Dead or some PoS show like that.

Re: What show are you watching right now?
Essos was always lame, even in the early seasons, was just a stall tactic to prevent Danny from coming back before it was optimal story wise. Can't imagine it was that good in the books either. Dorne was dumb, no one defends the amount of screen time devoted to it.
Game of Thrones is still the best show that everyone watches, it's not my fault the masses don't care as much about higher quality tv shows. The show is good enough to live with the flaws, but it's far from the best show on TV. If you are expecting it to be the best show on television you are going to walk away disappointed, but you shouldn't be expecting it at this point, feel free to complain about the shows many flaws, but GoT hasn't fallen off a cliff, that's fake news. Dorne sucked, Essos was boring, still well worth watching, CGI isn't the only thing the show has going for it and you know it.

You better believe I'm gonna complain! I think GoT fell off a cliff at the end of Season 4 tbh. We tend to agree on shows Capps, and I'm not saying that GoT is a lost cause yet, but those writers need to proceed with caution or they will fuck everything up. I wonder what George Dan Carlin Martin thinks of the later seasons. I'll bet he is more than a little annoyed, because I doubt he would have handled them that way. I guarantee he will not survive to finish writing the books either. No one that fat could handle the stress of fans always wanting updates on the next publishing. He will probably be in the morgue from a coronary before the next book. Bet your mortgage on that!

Re: What show are you watching right now?
They could fuck it up, but so far the show has been at it's best when it does things that only a TV show can do, and being overly faithful to source material has lead to more lame storelines in my opinion, so I'm optimistic they can do a solid job. When they try to be "73 hour movie" GoT doesn't work as well, when an episode has a focus in one location and does a deep dive, good shit happens. When they move from character to character, location to location, not so much.
I don't need the greatest ending ever, I just hope they don't fuck it up, and the ending makes sense, don't just be unpredictable for the sake of being unpredictable, a trap they sometimes fall for, trying to recapture The Red Wedding. Sure they could fuck the ending up, I've seen some shows comparable to GoT in quality fuck the landing up despite being a real solid show, BSG and Lost come to mind in particular, I hope GoT can avoid that fate and pull of a Justified or Boardwalk Empire quality ending, is that too much to ask?

Re: What show are you watching right now?
Apparently all the episodes of the last season are going to be feature-length.
Also, if GoT is the best show on TV, Westworld is a very close second
