If a TV program showing how to eat healthily and providing recipes for good food makes a watcher feel hungry and they go out and buy a cheesebuger and fries should the program be removed for causing the obesity epedemic?

That literally made no sense. I am not sure what you were trying to convey here.

I am comparing commercialized American sports to the worst of our fast food. It's poison.

The purpose of sports is self-improvement and fraternity. Televised sports entertainment does the opposite in the same way that fast food does the opposite of nourish you.
My point is that many of the watchers of a healthy food program will be inspired to start eating better. If some portion of the audience fails to be inspired by the message that is not the program's fault.
If you remove all inspirational sports programs from the air is that going to increase or decrease sports participation?

The point is that the NFL is *not* designed to be healthy. In fact, it's designed to distract people from worthwhile lives.

I see the cognitive dissonance all the time in guys who associate their NFL viewership with masculinity and athleticism. I am not making this up. A huge number of American males are like this. They are fat and out of shape, but watching sports makes them feel like they are "doing something" about being males.

It's what Jack Donovan labeled the bonobo masturbation society.

My contention is that, the more active (both physically and intellectually) people become, the less they will watch that fucking television. But it's also true that the more active people become, the less pliable consumers they become. The less controllable they become. The more agency they develop. There's a reason this shit is encouraged: the same reason the Roman emperors spent fortunes on their own arena games.

Meh - know lots of people who play and watch sports. Nerd plays basketball and watches (college) basketball. I watch television and also work out.

It's like asking "do you walk to work or carry your lunch?" as in, huh?

We've also learned a lot about cooking from watching Food Network and a lot about house design/options, etc., from watching HGTV. Television can, indeed, be educational.

You should throw away your television then. Live the right way.

I pretty much did. The only two shows I watched last year was Iron Fist and Punisher, and Punisher drove me over the edge with the AIDS contained therein. Then, last month, I was like fuck it, I will try one more time. I got about 10 minutes into that urban fantasy show with Will Smith and the AIDS was so fucking horrendous I canceled Netflix forever.

I honestly don't like television any longer. It's like a sugar addiction. Once you get past the detox, you don't crave that shit any longer. I actually crave doing physical things now. I have to limit myself because of pain, but I walk right up to the line of max volume for various kinds of physical activities.

If I watch sports, it's usually on youtube and it's usually something related to what I do fitness-wise. I can't do hardly shit on the rings or parallettes right now because my shoulder is still in rehab, but I will watch those kinds of sports because it's a kind of inspiration to what I want to actually accomplish.

Do you see what I am saying here? If you love baseball, I strongly encourage you to join a local team and play it! If one doesn't exist, start the process of creating a league.

Watching sports while doing nothing with your body is like a porn habit (for real). Go out and grab life by the pussy!

Again, many, many people have the ability to do both. Don't assume others are like you.

Here's just a small sample of things I can do on in the same 24 hour period.

- Cook
- Clean
- Sleep
- Eat
- Work, as in paying job
- Physical workout
- Television watching
- Shopping
- Sex
- Reading
- Screwing around on the internet

For some of us, though, who don't even have to work, they can't do more than 2-3 things in one day. I'm sorry you are so limited, StA, but quit projecting.

He'll never stop projecting, that's all he does, assume most people think just like he does. It's no wonder he hates TV, all he does is watch shitty Netflix superhero shows and thinks that all TV shows are just as shitty, never ending projection.

Nah. I have eyes, Kath. It's everywhere. Nor am I projecting. I have always preferred actually playing sports to watching them. You are just lashing out because you know I hit home with this. Making it personal too. Fucking shitty of you, but whatever. Have fun watching television you fat old boot!

People can enjoy watching sports and playing them, it's not one or the other, quit fronting like it is.

I wonder if any professional sports players watched the Super Bowl. I'm guessing, nah - they wouldn't want to get out of shape. Best to leave the house and go do a heavy workout instead.

lol.
