I have to admit I've avoided psionics... and I plan to continue to do so.
You can’t Min/Max characters without psionics. It’s like playing without feats.

So you’ve played later editions of D&D...

How badly did they break the mold?

I’m a 1st edition fan, myself. Though 1st-3rd edition were all playable. I liked the clunkiness of 1st edition because it acted as a filter to keep low-interest players at bay.

2nd edition caused no damage IMO...
I stopped there.
Did third edition add anything worthwhile?

5th edition is okay, but I'd rather use my own game mechanics quite honestly. I liked 2nd edition most. 3rd is cancer. Never saw 4th. 1st is okay.

Basically, as long as they tried to market the game to millinneals, it was going to suck rat cock and play like a video game on paper. Millinneals I am convinced don't even possess fully developed imaginations. Just stick to selling the CoD releases and go back to the roots of true RPGs without them.

I just looked them up... it made my head hurt...
But how something reads on paper is different than how it plays.

If I was going to play D&D as an adult I would probably want to play on gridpaper with miniatures to keep track of tactics... but I don’t think that would improve the game for my kids.

The 2nd edition rules are more than enough complexity for them.

There is no way either of my kids would ever DM a game....

I’m surprised I had the tenacity to absorb these rules when I was younger than they are.

But then, I’m Gen X.

Honestly, it's possible millinneals lack imagination because they lack souls. They might be Satan's generation to usher in the end times for all I know. Children of the Corn.

To be honest they have great imaginations. My daughter is an amazing artist and my son is super passionate about birdwatching and creative at writing and photography. But neither would take the time to master the rules of a game like this. Probably because they are more normal and balanced than I was.
