Night King flies off to King's Landing on the necrodrake burns the whole shit down, raises the whole city as wights... Cersei is surrounded with her newborn child and just about to die, when the NK swoops in... and signals to her that she can survive if she lets her son become a WW (like Craster's offering his newborn in return for safety). Left with either her son and her dying anyway, she accepts. She either subsequently burns herself alive or walks into some nearby woods as she watches the whole of King's Landing new wight army move north. If surviving and moving into the nearby woods, she gets eaten alive by Nymeria - Arya will then start drooling and hooting while fighting in the North because of her warg connection to Nym.
Most of the Winterfell defenders die. Jon doesn't, Bran neither. Winterfell falls because there's no NK. They retreat into the Winterfell catacombs, where they find a secret passage warded with the same magic the Three-Eyed Raven's lair had. Unfortunately, the second Bran enters it, the enchantment breaks... and the civilians and the few survivors have to flee the tunnel system. Gendry collapses the tunnels because...he's got a comically large hammer good for tearing down tunnels, I'd like to think.
The few survivors exit the tunnels, only to come across the remnants of the Golden Company and Euron Greyjoy's forces, who were sent north before KL got attacked and depopulated. They band up. They're struck in a pincer movement between the huge undead armies of north and south. Tyrion shows up. Reveals he pieced together some totally brilliant, but tragic, solution that will save them all, which he came up with because of his conversation with Bran.
The solution is either:
1. NK's motive for attacking is that the humans broke some, unknown (though hinted at in the books and to some extent show) pact between WW and First Men humans. Could be that they're pissed a Stark has become the next 3YR, and because the Night King is really a Stark ancestor who was involuntarily used as a sacrifice by the Children to serve as a biological weapon, he wants to destroy both no-longer-Bran and all their legacy. Therefore, Tyrion, through Bran's "interpretation" arranges a deal with the NK. NK will gain Dany or Jon as a sacrifice, and a highborn son every hundred years or so. In return, peace. It will be revealed that this is how the original, first fight ended.
2. Bran wargs the undead dragon, and as NK tries to regain a hold of it (and kills Bran in the process), Arya skewers the NK's chest and pulls out the obsidian fragment in his chest.
3. Bran wargs the undead dragon and flies Jon far north, toward the weirwood tree where the NK was created. It's really the - now crystallized - tree, not the obsidian fragment that gives the NK his power and form.
Fame is not flattery. Respect is not agreement.
