I can't tell whether you are just trolling the muh roads crowd now or not.

There is a lot of talk about how crappy the government and the state are, I am just carving out a counter position.

It is easy to take the benefits of order for granted when we are used to them. Then failures and breakdowns of order stick in the memory better.

I tend to agree but you're going to get a lot of disagreement around here. I'll go and fetch the popcorn...

I think the problem is that nobody really likes to admit how much their comfort and security is reliant on things they can't control, like a complex bureaucratic machine.

Sorry Carlus but you're going to have to put a bit more effort into your argument than simply stating ''history proves'' to convince me. Precision machining was a big step, I don't disagree, but to say there was no exponential advancement before it is a rather blunt statement that needs expanding on.

But tax is theft and if a worker is not producing something solid and understandable like a widget I'm not happy about paying for it.

I've got another unpopular idea: I really appreciate that my tax money can be used to bail out large and largely unaccountable banks as long as it keeps the train on the tracks. It means my labors have not only benefited me, but have, in some small way, contributed to maintaining the greater order.

I'm not feeling particularly charitable towards the banks right now since mine point blank refused to return the favour when this particular taxpayer was suffering financial embarrassment. A point I testily mentioned to no avail.

Are restaurants not considered essential over there? Here most of them are still open for take out-only or delivery service.

The pub I was working in is doing a few takeaways but since the landlord hasn't got anything else to do he's cooking them himself.
The state will stop me from starving eventually but those damn bureaucrats are keeping me waiting for my cheque.

Bureaucracy exists to stabilize the state, not to serve the population. I wouldn't wait on their check if you can hustle up a side gig.
