Yup. Peyton Manning did not run the Broncos, most of the pieces were in place before he arrived. They just needed a QB better than Cutler. Letting players play GM is usually even dumber than letting owners play GM. Stop looking for outliers and pretending they are the rule, they are not.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2019 11:15 pmPeyton Manning practically ran all aspects of the Broncos for a year and took them straight to a super bowl. You’re seriously telling me that this can’t be done by anyone but Belichik?StCapps wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2019 11:09 pmNot just ownership who wants to win, but ownership who refuses to meddle and let the GM and coach do their jobs without needless interference. Meddlesome ownership caring so much about winning that they stick their nose into everything is bad juju, so it can be a double-edged sword. Ownership should stick to being owners, not pretending they are GM's or coaches to the team's detriment.
The GM should stick to being a GM, the coach should stick to coaching, unless you have a Belichick, of which there is only one, and the Bears ain't getting their hands on him.
You need a real GM, a real coach and a real owner, and they need to let each other do their jobs without meddling, not try to wear multiple hats and step on each others toes, let alone let a player be GM fool.
Most of the teams who win Super Bowls follow that pattern, stop trying to emulate outliers that can't be replicated.
