it's technically correct to call the Taliban invaders

the Taliban were orphans of the Afghan civil war who were sent to Pakistan to be raised in Saudi funded Madrassas

there were 200,000 Talibs in 2,000 Madrassas in Pakistan

they were raised as Arab educated Wahhabi foreigners, they even speak a different dialect than the Afghans

the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan by infiltrating Kandahar province led by Mullah Omar, then the entire 200,000 Talib force launched an invasion

though they are ethnic Pashtuns, they are quite foreign to local Afghans, they are generally viewed as being proxies for the Pakistani ISI

the Taliban are not ethnically foreign to Afghans, but they are culturally foreign, and they did come from Pakistan to invade Afghanistan
