It's not the same at all.

2010 Seahawks went to the playoffs at 7-9.

2 teams were 10-6, did not even get a wildcard spot. It happens.
If you made football national team based, the US would kill everyone. You are comparing apples and oranges, the sports are not the same when it comes to parity.
Of course we would. Same with Soccer, Hockey, or anything else that we wanted to. See: Olympics.

The point is that this system is the same as divisional structures in other sports league. Even the NCAA has this problem. We had undefeated teams not 'selected' for the Championship for years. Your rage is irrelevant.

World Cup Qualifying is worse than college football seeding though. My point is that it's that it's the worst and you need to acknowledge that, instead of defending the system for no reason. If you don't like the way college football does it, you shouldn't like the way the soccer does it, both these sports need to step their game up when it comes to that shit.

What is with you people, why can't you just admit it's a dumb system? like any sane rational person would. Just to troll me?

I think it's dumb to have 100+ different leagues and "championships" all over the planet, in the first place. Just make a fucking league, and run it already.

And nothing is dumber than NCAA football. Nothing.

Wrong. World Cup Qualifying is dumber, shitty teams get in, good teams get left out, every single year, and far more often than in the NCAA. Soccer wins by a long shot, and that's saying something, because NCAA football blows hard.

Something for you StCapps:

World Cup 2018: US Soccer exploring tournament for non-qualifiers

The teams that failed to qualify for the World Cup might yet have the chance to play in an international tournament next year.

That is because the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) is exploring the idea of hosting a competition featuring those who missed out on Russia 2018.

<-----snip------>

There were some heavyweights of world football who failed to make Russia 2018.

Both four-time champions Italy and three-time runners-up Netherlands would undoubtedly top the billing at a USA tournament.

Then there is Chile, ranked ninth in the world, boasting the likes of Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez.

Three African giants who were at Brazil 2014 could also feature. They include Ghana, whose squad includes the likes of Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey and West Ham midfielder Andre Ayew, five-time Cup of Nations winners Cameroon and also Ivory Coast.

Meanwhile, Gareth Bale's Wales, Czech Republic, Scotland, Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Turkey, Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and 2004 European champions Greece could also be asked to compete.

Consolation tournament is no substitute, won't even watch it. The only tournaments people care about when it comes to international soccer are the World Cup and the Euro Cup, fuck everything else. It's a stupid idea to make less people care about the only tournaments that fans actually give a shit about, to water down either of those tournaments with shitty teams that have no chance of winning, all because of obviously stupid rules, that's just dumb.

On the other hand, Italy need the practice and would benefit from playing against Holland, Chile,Ghana, Ireland, Austria etc.
Who knows, they might even get good enough to qualify for the next world cup.
