Only if you view selfish as a negative trait. The philosophical argument is that selfish does not mean bad, mean or criminal.

Anyway - I argued this in college during my philosophy requirement. I came away believing that it's more true than not, but I'm not married to this POV enough to argue about it endlessly.

And things like "mutual cooperation" does exist without the "State" coercing it all the time. People like to connect "competition" with the animal kingdom without also acknowledging the "cooperative" side of the coin. Everything is political and post hoc rationalization to justify ones positions. I'm guilty of it and pretty much everyone i've met is as well. We are emotional beings.

That’s some angsty teenage Alex Jones shit right there.
Your conclusion is crap, dude. Nobody is saying "all actions = selfish."

Sorry about that.

Who's hacking your account and posting under your handle?

Or, is there some hidden meaning?
DBTrek wrote:I’m less impressed with the rhetorical demagoguery used to explain all actions as selfish.
  • Step 1 - Define every action as something the actor “wants to do”.
Step 2 - Define any action one wants to do as “selfish”.
    Step 3 - All actions = selfish.
If one can’t see the trickery at play here, then I suppose it’s because they don’t want to.
I, for one at least, haven't said that "all actions = selfish." Quite the opposite.

Would it help if I had added "tend to" act in selfish ways?

What is your thoughts on epigenitics?
Turned genetics on its head.

Fill in the blank:

"Most of the moral outrage on display in these pages is symptomatic of ______________."

Who says "altruism?"

Moral Outrage Is Self-Serving, Say Psychologists
When people publicly rage about perceived injustices that don't affect them personally, we tend to assume this expression is rooted in altruism—a "disinterested and selfless concern for the well-being of others." But new research suggests that professing such third-party concern—what social scientists refer to as "moral outrage"—is often a function of self-interest, wielded to assuage feelings of personal culpability for societal harms or reinforce (to the self and others) one's own status as a Very Good Person.
