Didn't hurt Randy Couture much, his record is barely over .500 and he was a champion in two different weight divisions and was always a fan favorite. Losing really isn't that big of deal when it comes to hurting the losers starpower in MMA. As long as you win more than you lose, are a marketable personality and put on fights the fans want to see, losing a bunch really doesn't make a big difference.Speaker to Animals wrote:Losing a fight isn't the end of the world. Except that Conor publicly owned his loss, demanded to run it back and won. Ronda was coddled by the UFC all the way to the Octagon, got knocked loopy in under a minute and resumed her media blackout. Her stock took a hit based on her actions but it didn't have to be that way.StCapps wrote:Conor McGregor got choked out by Nate Diaz. His stock has only risen since. Hell, look at how Cruz went out and did both the post fight presser and the backstage interviews. Confronted it like a champ who just lost had his 10 year win streak broken emphatically.

They handled their losses better than Ronda handled her's, and by a country mile. But that doesn't hurt her stock that much. Most of her fans don't care about her fights anyway, and losing hardcore fight fans with her grating personality and being a huge sore loser is just not a big hit to her stock. Not promoting her last fight hurt the ppv buy rate but her star power is not ruined by this, mark my words.Haumana wrote:Except that Conor publicly owned his loss, demanded to run it back and won. I disagree. Her stock was based on her being a badass armbar submission specialist and the alpha chick in the UFC. Then she lost, contemplated suicide, required a total media blackout and then got starched in under a minute. She looked and acted like she didn't even belong in there. Any roles that portray a super strong woman, like Roadhouse, are going to be a tough sell.StCapps wrote:They handled their losses better but Ronda handling hers poorly doesn't hurt her stock that much. No. No it wasn't. Her crossover appeal is off the god damn charts, the vast majority of her fans aren't even MMA fans. Winning matters less to her stock than any other fighter's stock in the history of fighting because of that fact.Haumana wrote:I disagree. Not at all. Getting knocked out twice doesn't mean you can't portray her as a strong woman, she still armbarred a ton of chicks in speedy and dominant fashion, these two knockouts don't erase that, her highlight reel still exists. The recent KO losses doesn't help her stock, but it doesn't torpedo it as you are suggesting. If she goes to WWE and starts armbaring men than she can get swagger back real quick for instance. Her future actions could lead to her starpower being torpedoed in the future, but nothing she has done up until this point has hurt her in any significant way in that regard. So the fight nerds turned on her, I don't think she gives a shit, that loss is like a mosquito bite to her popularity.Haumana wrote:Then she lost, contemplated suicide, required a total media blackout and then got starched in under a minute. We'll see when she resurfaces and in what fashion. I am not saying she is washed up only that she took a hit Friday night even if it turns out to be a temporary one.StCapps wrote: If she goes to WWE and starts armbaring men than she can get swagger back real quick for instance. Oh she's washed up, if her confidence wasn't completely shot before then it is now and the competition is getting better while she is regressing. A new camp is her only hope and even then I have my doubts about any serious comeback but her stock didn't take much of a hit at all despite that. I really doubt we ever see her fight again, and if not she'll have to find some other way to stay in the public spotlight if she even wants to, but if she wants to stay in the spotlight in some manner then her starpower won't be heavily diminished for a while to come.Haumana wrote:We'll see when she resurfaces and in what fashion.
