If one region comes to completely dominate a sport, like, say Basketball, then the "world championship" would be meaningless to the rest of the world. It would be the NBA regular season.

Kinda makes sense to include other areas, even if they'll lose. Same as the Olympics - which really make the World Cup irrelevant anyway. Yet, somehow, we need 12-13 "world championships" per decade, because people eat it up, I guess.

But the best teams ARE in the cup. Just not "all of the best teams".

If they're that much better, then they'll win it anyway (assuming that talent has anything to do with the result, and not just a single, lucky kick in that dumbass sport).

What motivation do the Asian teams have to compete, if they're miles behind the Euros, with no chance to qualify? Why would they bother? They'd just focus on their Asian leagues, and ignore it. If you want to promote worldwide soccer (for whatever reason), this is a good way to do so.
