I like Ridley Scott a lot too. Alien is a great movie. Blade Runner is perfect. There are so many great shots in it. I like the scene where he shoots that android and she breaks through the neon department store snow display in slow motion. The Rutger Hauer roof scene is iconic, and one of my favorite movie shots ever tbh. I saw Alien Covenant in theaters with my girlfriend this year. She hated it, but its been the best theater experience I've had in a long time. There are a lot of people who hate Prometheus and Covenant, but I fucking love those movies. Ridley Scott does great scifi. Usually I hate reboots and stuff like that, but this new Blade Runner movie has also gotten me excited. Apparently, Harrison Ford hates the shit out of Star Wars too. It is likely that he is more of a Blade Runner fan. He basically said that Han Solo is a boring one dimensional character, and he's right.Smitty-48 wrote:Ridley Scott pretty much blew Star Wars away for me, with Alien, then later, Blade Runner, at which point you're kind of like "Star Wars, meh"heydaralon wrote:
I guess the earlier star wars movies were game changers, but the new ones certainly aren't. Even when I was in middle school I knew something was off about the prequels. I don't get how people are still rabid about these new movies. As for Star Trek, I always felt it was boring and not as cerebral as the creators thought it was. Its kind of like watching something nerdy without actually learning anything. Maybe its a generational thing, I'm not sure.

Raiders was another one, Raiders was the first movie where I came out of the theater, went and got my buddy, and then came back and watched it again the same day, for me, Raiders was even bigger than Star Wars, at that moment, it was just the perfect movie, and same thing with Star Wars, I had no idea what it was about going in, we just went to the movies without even deciding what we were going to see, and my dad was like "how about this one, that looks cool" and I saw the hat and I was "I don't like westerns", and my dad says "it's not a duster, it's your buddy Han Solo, how bad could it be?" and I was like "OK, I'll give it a try" and then boom; Raiders, blew me away.

Raiders is pretty great. I used to love the Indy movies. Named my cat Indiana Jones. Kind of surprised you don't like Westerns. Clint Eastwood has directed a lot of great ones. Seems like he is the embodiment of pretty much all your values tbh. I like Eastwood westerns, but I've never really like John Wayne or James Stewart at all, though I did like the Man who Shot Liberty Vallance.Smitty-48 wrote:Raiders was another one, Raiders was the first movie where I came out of the theater, went and got my buddy, and then came back and watched it again the same day, for me, Raiders was even bigger than Star Wars, at that moment, it was just the perfect movie, and same thing with Star Wars, I had no idea what it was about going in, we just went to the movies without even deciding what we were going to see, and my dad was like "how about this one, that's looks cool" and I saw the hat and I was "I don't like westerns", and my dad says "it's not a duster, it's your buddy Han Solo, how bad could it be?" and I was like "OK, I'll give it a try" and the boom; Raiders, blew me away.

Oh I like westerns now, but I didn't back when I was a kid, my dad made me watch westerns, he was a child of the 50s, so he was big into westerns, but it wasn't my speed when I was a kid, I got into them later, the movie that got me into westerns was Pale Rider, and then I went back through all the Eastwood stuff, I'm not huge into westerns, but I'm huge into Clint Eastwood westerns, that's a special breed.
But even my dad loved Raiders, a lot of times he would fall asleep in movies if it was a "kids" movie, he fell asleep in Star Wars, but Raiders blew him away, he wasn't big on Harrison Ford, but he loved Indiana Jones.

Unforgiven and the Outlaw Josey Wales are my 2 favorite Eastwood Westerns, but I like High Plains Drifter a lot too. The Sergio Leone ones are good too, but I don't like them as much as the stuff Eastwood directed himself.Smitty-48 wrote:Oh I like westerns now, but I didn't back when I was a kid, my dad made me watch westerns, he was a child of the 50s, so he was big into westerns, but it wasn't my speed when I was a kid, I got into them later, the movie that got me into westerns was Pale Rider, and then I went back through all the Eastwood stuff, I'm not huge into westerns, but I'm huge into Clint Eastwood westerns, that's a special breed.

Yeah, I tend to agree, but I love Eli Wallach, so The G, the B, and the U, that's my fave spagetti, Tuco steals the show.heydaralon wrote:Unforgiven and the Outlaw Josey Wales are my 2 favorite Eastwood Westerns, but I like High Plains Drifter a lot too. For those disappointed by the new Star Trek series, just watch this instead and quit your bitching:
Gene Roddenberry has nothing on David Simon, it's not like there is a lack of quality television to watch.

Glad you like the show as much as I do Capps. It will be something to kill time with until the next season of CSI Miami starts. I'm pretty excited because they have really done a good job with character development on those CSI shows. Its always interesting how the plots and stories are very original and dissimilar with every episode. You really have no idea how its going to end going in! I feel like David Simon would really benefit working on Criminal Minds or Law and Order, because he could talk to some of their writers and learn how to make a good show.

Have you seen the latest episode yet? Its so strange how Simon has covered the mafia, porn, and the pimps in 3 episodes. I love it. Who is your favorite character? I don't know if I have one yet, because there are so many.StCapps wrote:Everything David Simon touches turns to gold.heydaralon wrote:Glad you like the show as much as I do Capps.
