I'm no boomer, I just appreciate a TV show that knows how to finish strong is all, better to go out strong, than burnout and milk a popular franchise for cash until the money runs out.

Most television shows would rather milk the ratings than make quality television, which is why so many TV shows burnout after being on the air way too long.

This pitfall is particularly prevalent among popular TV shows, the more popular it is, the greater the financial incentive to appeal to lowest common denominator, and keep the show going well past it's prime. The shows that don't succumb to that pressure, should be applauded for resisting that temptation.

Magnum delivers. Leaves you wanting more, but at the same time you know the story is over, because he's over his Post Vietnam Syndrome, he's got his daughter back, he's back in the Navy, so he's not going back to the guest house with Higgins at the Estate.

It's not just that but there is reason to believe that they will eat the costs just to push a message. A message that will assuredly secure them more dinner parties and hopeful contracts

That too. The worst offenders are popular network TV shows, as brewster just said in the GoT thread:TheReal_ND wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2019 7:30 pmIt's not just that but there is reason to believe that they will eat the costs just to push a message. The shows that don't fall for that trap, get mad dap from me, it's a rarity in the TV business.brewster wrote:Yes, networks want 23 shows, not 8-13, and once they invest in making a show a hit they wan to milk it till no one wants to watch it anymore, they couldn't give a shit about neat endings. When ending time comes they've moved on already.

I wasn't a big fan of Seinfeld, but you gotta hand it to him for walking off on top. Of course it didn't hurt that he created the show and made like 1/4 Billion dollars off it. I'd say that's "fuck you" money, as in never work again and be able to say fuck you to anybody. My FU number is considerably smaller, but I don't collect classic cars.
