Moving along a curve is not the same as moving a curve. We get this, yes?

You have as much chance at telling me how to move an equilibrium point at your will as I have of going back in time to 1980, impersonating Tom Selleck, and fucking Lynda Carter tonight.

I like my fantasy better, btw.

That's an effective demonstration of the tax transfer from American taxpayers, consumers, and entrepreneurs to Washington DC, and the resulting loss in American purchasing power, consumer choice, and jobs.

I just don't like how in that model the world supply is a flat line. For a small country that might be true but I don't think it is so for the US. The supply and demand lines usually aren't straight either. They should be more curve-shaped. It is a pretty good illustration of the overall principle at work so I thought it might be useful.

It's a curve and the portion of it to the far left is all imports (for the American economy, anyway). A tariff shifts that portion of the curve, since it effectively adds to the unit cost of Chinese products that dominate that side of the curve.

It's not flat. It's drawn that way to make it easier to see the changes and transfers in horizontal and vertical lines. The resulting mapping onto the horizontal and vertical axes gives us a 1:1 mapping to make it easier to visualize and understand quantitative changes relative to starting assumptions.

We can't accurately draw the real curve on a graph, either; but it is definitely a slope of some kind. Elasticity is what gives a slope steepness or flatness and bend. The axiom is that higher market prices lead to greater aggregate supply and vice versa for aggregate demand.

If we drew a graph with slopes for all the different price points resulting from taxes and/or subsidies, it would get really really hard to read. Like trying to draw a picture of a hypersphere on a sheet of graph paper and then measure its volume with your eyes and a ruler; or looking at a Mercator projection and trying to compare accurately the size of Greenland and Cuba. What we see on the graphs you posted is a way of making the changes easier to see. Without 1:1 mapping to the axes, it would be about impossible to just look at and understand.

Communist Mayor is leading the GOP candidate...Florida will have a state income tax in less than two governor election cycles...even if the commies miss the mark this time...trends show they will eventually get it.

Hope the proles understand what is about to happen to them...

Invest in cat food.
Florida trailer park consumption gonna drive demand way up if a state income tax is implemented.

Hope StA is ready for all the NY liberals to retire in his back yard once Florida becomes less economically viable.

So goes FL, so goes the country - DNC/marxists will win 2020 - get to appoint marxists to SCOTUS and Federal courts - you will loose your private property rights - everything belongs to the state now. When will people wake up? Its not going to happen in the distant future - it very well could happen in as little as 10 yrs or less.
