Yep, God in general, and Protestantism specifically, pretty much equals evil and monstrosity.

Well, if we had a thread for villains we love, I'd have to go with Martin Luther. That dude might have laid the groundwork for our civilization's ruin, but he was a master shit talker.

Because Europe was such a lovely, idyllic place before him. LOL.

Yeah, the past was not utopia, so let the Africans ass fuck your wife and jihadis nailbomb your children. Burn it all down because somebody was mean in the past.

That is a dumb thing to say. Rockefeller's disconnect between his theology and the evil of his actions, combined with his incredible achievement, is what's fascinating. The concept of the Divine and offshoots thereof are not the point here.Fife wrote:Yep, God in general, and Protestantism specifically, pretty much equals evil and monstrosity.

What was his most evil action? Or, any one of, say, his top three most evil actions?

He was ruthless in the pursuit of monopoly. He was a murderer many times over, and his strikebreaking was epic. He brought greed to a new level.Fife wrote:What was his most evil action? Or, any one of, say, his top three most evil actions?
Were you a fan? If so, what did you like about him?

He was a great dichotomy. He rose from nothing to become the richest man ever, built an economy we still live in - hell, the companies that exist after his monopoly was broken up are by themselves some of the largest companies in the world. His money funded philanthropy on an epic scale, his descendants were themselves successful (and largely philanthropic), and he was apparently happily married. Yet he had people killed for money. He destroyed families. He was an abolitionist, yet he was a Civil War profiteer.Haumana wrote:This guy was a hero to you?MilSpecs wrote:He was ruthless in the pursuit of monopoly. He is the embodiment of some of the best and worst we can be. That's what I find so fascinating about him.
