Wouldn't a left-handed catcher be better at catching a righty curveball? The pitch would be traveling across his body toward the mitt, rather than away from it...

Shouldn't matter, the catcher knows the pitch and location so the glove shouldn't have to move much at all.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Wouldn't a left-handed catcher be better at catching a righty curveball? The pitch would be traveling across his body toward the mitt, rather than away from it...

Right, but at some point, the pitcher is going to miss his mark. I think a lefty catcher would be more reliably able to pick it up.clubgop wrote:Shouldn't matter, the catcher knows the pitch and location so the glove shouldn't have to move much at all.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Wouldn't a left-handed catcher be better at catching a righty curveball? Well you'd be the only one. Hasnt been a lefty catcher in MLB since 89 abd that was 1 game then you have to go back a couple innings rhroughtout the decades. And no leftys in the minor league for a long time now. Catchers are sought almost as much as lefty pitchers with velocity yet of left handed they wont even talk to you or convert you into OF.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Right, but at some point, the pitcher is going to miss his mark. I always thought a lefty catcher was wanted because of the throw to 1st?clubgop wrote:Correct on the pitcher but a consistent low 90's fastball is the building block, absolutely wrong on the catcher.California wrote:Being a southpaw boxer is an advantage like being a lefty catcherSpeaker to Animals wrote:I am goofy-footed. Hell, being a lefty pitcher is an advantage as well; if you can figure out junk balls you can have a long career as a middle relief specialist
Or is the ideal left handed batting right handed catching?

a usuable catcher batting anywhere near the Mendoza line is ideal.California wrote:I always thought a lefty catcher was wanted because of the throw to 1st?clubgop wrote:Correct on the pitcher but a consistent low 90's fastball is the building block, absolutely wrong on the catcher.California wrote: Being a southpaw boxer is an advantage like being a lefty catcher
