I thought it was 1 but I never went past high school maths.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

This local Norfolk teenager received a years ban for his dangerous driving.
What better reason to buy a dashcam...

Well, it all depends, and that's the point. It's intentionally ambiguous, which points up how the obelus [ ÷ ] is a disfavored symbol/notation.
PEMDAS is the rule, of course, but the [MD] and [AS] parts aren't really individual terms, as multiplication and division are really the same operation, as is addition and subtraction.
So, very reasonable arguments exist for both "1" and "16" exist for the (intentionally) ambiguous term 8÷2(2+2).
How anyone could come up with "4" is a stupefying mystery to me, though. How'd you do that, StA?
The maths girl with whom I'm most smitten, Hannah Fry, wrote it up in the Daily Mail (she claimed on Twitter that she had a good reason for doing the piece for the Mail).
Mathematician solves tricky equation that's been baffling the internet for days - so, did YOU work out the correct answer?
Her latest book, which I dug the most: Hello World: Being Human in the Age of Algorithms
I fell in love, of course, on Numberphile. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... d-dK3dIZYh
