Most exciting part in recent series history was Hodor/Hold the Door, looked like there was time warping stuff going on, now I suspect this show will never be a tight little package and that stuff was just cool for a moment.
Unless one of you mega nerds can explain how that phenomena is still relevant or dealt with

Re: What show are you watching right now?
There are glaring holes with the show. Its gone downhi. I will be the first to admit it sucks. I have not read the books, but Im going to assume that they started to suck too. I dont think GRRM has any idea on how to end his series well. He is in over his head. Hes fat, old and overstressed. He will die soon. The fact that he has said positive things about the later seasons tell me 2 things:
1. He is an idiot who has bad tastes (fact)
2. He knows that the show will be his legacy and thus he should spin it in a positive light because he has about 6 months before his obesity related stroke puts him in the ground
I wonder if we can all compromise here. The later seasons of the shows sucks, because the later books suck too! Benhoff and Weiss are no talent clowns. That is a given. But its not fair to expect anything good out of these morons, when the source material they are given has become terrible and unfinished. This whole
Project was always halfbaked imo. What kind of idiot starts a project based on a series of books that are not and will never be finished. While Game of Thrones has become an abortion, I blame myself as anyone else. I watched this show, which collectively gave HBO the greenlight to continue this piece of shit series. If consumers had stopped tuning in after season 4, HBO would have stopped making episodes. An unfinished good show would be better than this mess we have now. If we are being honest, the source material was truly awful. Dragons and zombies are so gay and cliched. The walking dead as always been trash tier, and Im bummed out HBO took the bait. CGI is what morons like, and its not why I watch HBO. Leave the dragons and zombie for basmemnt dweller board games and come out with some non faggot shows. It would require creativity and good writing, something that HBO is in short supply of at the moment.

The Doom of Valaryia would be every bit as cool and spectacular. If they didn't drop the ball too bad.

Re: What show are you watching right now?
Still one of the best shows on TV, flaws and all. This season may not have been as good as the last or some of the earlier seasons of the show, but it's still pretty good. If Game of Thrones sucks, than so does almost every show on television, problem is many people have gotten spoiled by all the superior shows on television that it's jaded them regarding GoT. Learn to love it for what it is, and quit expecting it to be something it isn't. It's a lot easier to enjoy the show if you don't hold it up to a ridiculous standard and expect it to be as good Fargo or something, pro tip.
GoT is a show that tends to drag in between big spectacles, always has, always will, why expect any different? Like I said, Boardwalk Empire is the best benchmark of comparison for GoT, expecting it to be so much better than that is just improperly set expectations. I'd be surprised if GoT stuck the landing as well as Boardwalk did though, that's an important caveat, but then again I never thought Boardwalk would stick the landing as well as it did going into the final season either.

Do you think there is a chance that the spin off or prequels etc. could be better than GOT? Maybe more niche, more idiosyncratic, tighter writing etc.

Spinoffs are almost always worse the original, and most spinoffs suck, I see no reason to expect otherwise when it comes to GoT. If any of the sequels don't suck, that's a big win.GloryofGreece wrote:Do you think there is a chance that the spin off or prequels etc. could be better than GOT? Better Call Saul is a miracle, and Vince Gilligan is a genius, but it's still no Breaking Bad. There's nothing wrong with that, not every show can be as good as Breaking Bad, and I don't get bummed out if they aren't. If I did, then I wouldn't watch television anymore, because then every show would be a disappointment, and that's no fun. I pity anyone foolish enough that they get stuck in that mindset, that's a sad, sad existence, right there.

They might do a better job of concentrating on a more specific character/s instead going back and forth from multiple Westeros families and across to Essos etc. Hell it would be cool to develop Asshai but they won't do something that far out. Or talk about Children of the Forrest before they went extinct. Do you think they'll do something more known and directly relevant to the current story beginning...Robert's Rebellion.

Indeed, you hit the nail on the head. You would make infinitely better showrunner of GoT than GrumpyCatFace. Narrow the scope and have a less sprawling ensemble cast, could do wonders if they got plenty of good material they can use.GloryofGreece wrote:They might do a better job of concentrating on a more specific character/s instead going back and forth from multiple Westeros families and across to Essos etc.
I've heard rumors of up to 4 spinoffs, if so, we might get all of the above, and yet another spinoff on top of that, lulz.GloryofGreece wrote:Hell it would be cool to develop Asshai but they won't do something that far out. Dude. If they were following the novels, there would be MUCH more depth on each family/location. Don't try to end-around my argument.StCapps wrote:Indeed, you hit the nail on the head. The show would also take 15+ seasons to finish, and would drag so much as to make it unwatchable. You can't just port the novel over unadapted dude, that shit doesn't make good TV.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Dude. If they were following the novels, there would be MUCH more depth on each family/location.
