Fair enough, fair enough. Do MMA fighters not do any boxing? I have no idea. If its really as cut and dry as you are making it, I don't understand how this fight could have even been organized in the first place. Very weird.
Not really. Their entire sport is built around ground fighting. They're only standing for a tiny portion of the fight, and using their legs as well.

All that said, I'd like to bet on McGregor going the distance. He's probably a lot tougher than Mayweather, and certainly has the motivation to do it.

MMA is changing and each fight depends on the specialties of the fighters. Two kick boxers aren't going to go on the ground until one of them falls over and even then that is just going to be the one with the advantage pounding the other one's face in for the KO.

This is not even close to a cut and dry difference as Tom Brady vs Lebron. There is so much more defense in boxing as opposed to MMA that is where we are going to see a difference and where Floyd made his mark. It will probably be a very boring fight unless McGregor gets a couple lucky punches in

Don't listen to grumps. He clearly doesn't watch MMA.

Back in the old days, that was the case, but by 2005 at the latest, they had all kinds of rules that had stuff changing.

What was it in the first days? One fifteen minute match, no weight classes, no throwing in the towel, refs couldn't stop the fights... I know in 2007 I was binge watching every season from the start, and saw the evolution happen right in front of me.

We laughed our asses off when it finally got up to Rogan's first appearance. I should do that again.

That's what Sakuraba said.

Let's just say it's been a minute since they were on top of the sport.

Old School UFC was brutal. Only rules were no eye gouging and no biting.
